With population increase and economic growth, the development of water resources and hydropower resources of the Hanjiang River has been intensified by dam building, and consequently the sediment regime of the Hanjiang River has been altered to some extent. To assess dam-induced alterations in the sediment regime of the Hanjiang River quantitatively, we selected three key hydrological stations (Baihe, Huangzhuang and Xiantao) as case study sites above and below the Danjiangkou reservoir respectively, and the whole study period was divided into two sub-periods according to the year when the reservoir started to store water. On the basis of time series of daily sediment data from the three stations, the alterations in their annual, seasonal, monthly and daily sediment load, and the relationships between water quantity and sediment load in different sub-periods were investigated, and the driving forces for the alterations were also explored. The output of this paper could provide reference for the assessment of the impacts of human activities on the long-term health and stability of the Hanjiang River ecosystem. © 2012 IWA Publishing.

With the rapid socio-economic development, groundwater pollution is worsening, especially in landfill leachate contamination of groundwater, has been the focus of attention of the wider problem. Because of the existing the trucation errors associated with finite-difference solution, the difference equation of one-dimensional leachate pollution are corrected based on Taylor analysis. According to the model, based on Matlab program, Landfill leachate migration is simulated, distribution values of leachate concentration under sudden pollutant discharged can be obtained directly, which can provide abundant and useful water quality information for the plan and control of leachate pollution. The approach can also be used for correcting other finitedifference schemes whenever they do not have second-order accuracy. © Research India Publications.

In order to study the ecological water environment in Erhai Lake, different monitoring sections were set to research the change of hydrodynamics and water quality. According to the measured data, MIKE21 Ecolab, the water quality simulation software developed by DHI, is applied to simulate the water quality in Erhai Lake. The hydrodynamics model coupled with water quality is established by MIKE21FM software to simulate the current situation of Erhai Lake. Then through the comparison with the monitoring data, the model parameters are calibrated and the simulation results are verified. Based on this, water quality is simulated by the two-dimensional hydrodynamics and water quality coupled model. The results indicate that the level of water quality in the north and south of lake is level III, while in the center of lake, the water quality is level II. Finally, the water environment capacity and total emmision reduction of pollutants are filtered to give some guidance for the water resources management and effective utilization in the Erhai Lake. © 2013 Changjun Zhu et al.

Based on the energy method, the vibration analysis model of a plate structure attached with rectangular cross section vibration isolation masses was developed. By utilizing Rayleigh-Ritz method, the dynamic responses of the structure under external load were calculated. The isolation characteristics of single step arranged isolation mass, several steps arranged isolation masses and rectangular loop isolation masses band were discussed. The effects of structural parameters of isolation mass on its vibration isolation performance were also discussed. Computation and analysis results show that, the isolation effect of isolation mass is significant when the structure is under middle or high frequencies excitation. The vibration isolation performance can be improved by increasing the isolation mass or the section height with no mass change.
