The article describes the uniaxial compression tests on rock salt samples under monotonic loading, which were carried out with the synchronous record of changes in thermal radiation and mechanical parameters. A relationship between the nonlinear deformation stages and the features of thermomechanical processes is found. The rate of change in rock stress state is shown to affect the information value of variations in the attendant infrared radiation. The experimental results point out the possibility of using the method in monitoring of the real geomechanical objects. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The concept of physical bases for the grouting of soils by jet technology is discussed. Strength characteristics are cited for soil-cement mixes in jet-piles, which are attained during their formation as a function of volume replacement of soil by cement grout. The theory of correlation-regression analysis is used for statistical processing of archival survey data, and correlation relationships between the compression modulus based on data derived from plate tests and the specific resistance of the soil beneath of cone of the probe during static penetration are investigated for Quaternary clayey soils of various origin.
