Nanocrystalline In 2O 3 powder with cubic structure was synthesized by sol-gel method using indium nitrate hydrate by stirring and resultant precipitates was calcined at 400 °C for one hour, in air ambient. Morphological observations showed a uniform distribution of spherical particles. From transmission electron microscopic (TEM) observations particles size found to vary from 20-30 nm with mostly spherical in shape. Thick films of the powder were prepared by standard screen printing method on alumina substrate, and fired at 800 C for better adhesion. X-ray diffraction results indicated cubic phase of crystalline In 2O 3. The gas sensing response of sensor to different reducing gases like hydrogen sulfide (H 2S), ammonia (NH 3, ethanol (C 2H 5OH), carbon dioxide (CO 2 and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was studied as a function of operating temperature from 100 to 1000 ppm. Sensors were found selective and sensitive to H 2S with a response time of ~7S. Sensors are found delivering stable response over a period of 90 days. © 2012 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.

Thick films of pure and Nb2O5 doped ZnO for various concentrations (1 wt. %, 3 wt. %, 5 wt. %, 7 wt. % and 10 wt. %) were prepared on alumina substrates using a screen printing technique. These films were fired at a temperature of 700°C for two hours in an air atmosphere. Morphological, compositional and structural properties of the samples were obtained using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction techniques respectively. The Ethanol gas sensing studies were carried out in a static gas sensing system under normal laboratory conditions. The surface resistance of thick films decreases when exposed to ethanol gas. The Nb2O5 doped films show significant sensitivity to Ethanol gas than pure ZnO film. 3 wt. % Nb2O5-doped ZnO film was found to be more sensitive (84%) to ethanol gas exposed at 300oC than other doping concentrations with fast response and recovery time.

Cd-Se thin films of varying thicknesses were prepared on glass substrate by chemical bath deposition technique at room temperature in which selenium dioxide is source of Se 2- while cadmium acetate is source of Cd 2+ ions. Ammonia was used as complexing agent. Nickel doping is achieved by adding Ni(NO 3) 2 solution to the bath. Approximate thickness was measured by gravimetric method. Band gap of the films was determined by measuring percent transmittance of film at various wavelengths. The band gap and thickness of the film were found to increase with increase of Ni concentration in films. The composition and structural characterization was carried out by using EDAX and SEM. © 2012 IACS.

Acute toxicity of pesticide coragen has been studied on freshwater crab Barytelphusa cunicularis. The LC 50 values were found to be 0.2612, 0.2280, 0.1650 and 0.1448 ppm for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hrs respectively. The highest LC 50 values were recorded after 24 hrs and lowest at 96 hrs exposure.

Viscosity(η),Density(ρ) and Ultrasonic velocities(U) are reported for binary mixtures of 1-Hexanol and 1-Heptanol with Nitrobenzene over entire range of mole fraction at 303.15 and 313.15 K and atmospheric pressure The viscosity deviation(Δη) Excess molar volume(VE) and isentropic compressibility(Ks) have been calculated. These values were fitted with Redlich-Kister type polynomial equation.
