Provided is a hot stamping method for manufacturing high strength vehicle body parts. The hot stamping method includes: high frequency induction heating a blank in a first heating furnace while transferring the blank; heating the heated blank to an austenitization temperature or more of a corresponding blank while transferring the heated blank from the first heating furnace to a second heating furnace; and drawing the blank heated to the austenitization temperature or more in the second heating furnace to form and cool the blank by using a press forming apparatus. According to the hot stamping method, it is possible to achieve excellent productivity and reduce energy.

The effect of a single pulse of electric current on the mechanical property of advanced high strength steels (AHSS) under quasi-static tensile loads is investigated by experiments. During a typical quasi-static tensile test, electric current is applied to a specimen for a short duration (less than 1 second) while the specimen is in plastic region. The stress-strain curve shows that the flow stress almost instantly decreases significantly (stress-drop) when the electric current is applied, while the tensile strength from the following stress-strain curve after the short pulse of electric current is not changed much. The experimental result suggests that the stress-drop at the moment of a short pulse of electric current can be effectively used to reduce the springback of material, as successfully demonstrated in the present study. © 2014 Korean Society for Precision Engineering and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In the present study, the feasibility of electrically assisted (EA) bake hardening for a complex phase (CP) ultra-high strength steel (UHSS) is experimentally investigated. In EA bake hardening, a specimen is rapidly heated to a target temperature by resistance heating in 0.25 sec and is cooled in air to room temperature without being held at the elevated temperature. Even with the extremely short process time, the EA bake hardening effectively induced hardening effects on the given UHSS, which are comparable to those of conventional bake hardening with holding time of 25 min. The result of the present study suggests that the EA bake hardening may be used as a cost-effective alternative to a conventional bake hardening process by significantly reducing the process time and the required energy. © 2016, Korean Society for Precision Engineering and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The electroplastic tensile behavior of ultra-high strength steels (UHSS) subject to a single pulse of electric current is briefly introduced, and electrically-assisted (EA) blanking, which utilizes this electroplastic characteristic, is suggested. The experimental result shows that the blanking load of EA blanking is clearly lower than that of blanking with local resistance heating, which is lower than that of cold blanking. No significant change in material properties was observed in the EA blanked parts at the electric energy densities selected in the present study. EA blanking or trimming is expected to minimize or even eliminate the need for expensive and time-consuming laser trimming in the manufacture of automotive parts using UHSS. © 2014 CIRP.

A method of assembling a sub-frame of a vehicle with the front side member of the vehicle includes integrally forming a supporting end of a mounting nut that protrudes in a radial direction in a center of an external circumference of the mounting nut, forming a through hole in a lower surface of the front side member, forming a seat as a groove in an internal surface of the through hole, inserting a lower end of the mounting nut into the through hole so that the supporting end is supported by a circumference of the through hole, settling a head of the mounting nut in the seat, and welding the supporting end and the head along the circumference of the through hole and a side of the seat to assemble the sub-frame to the front side member.

A mounting unit for a sub-frame of a vehicle is provided. The mounting unit is used for engaging a front side member with the vehicles sub-frame.
