The mathematical model describing chemical interaction of a polymer film with a reagent gas is developed. This model allows for significant changes in the chemical composition, structure, and physicochemical properties of the polymer as a result of modification. For certain types of surface modification, such as fluorination, a number of limitations and assumptions may be drawn that make it possible to perform the analytical solution of equations which are used as a basis to calculate the depths and profiles of equal fluorination degrees for various amorphous-crystalline polymers. The results of calculations of fluorination degrees conducted within the framework of the model are in fairly good agreement with the experimental data. The effects of surface layer transformed via fluorination on certain important characteristics of films and articles manufactured from polyethylene of various brands are revealed. These effects include increase in the chemical resistance of pipes, decrease in their permeability for low-molecular-mass compounds, reduction in fuel penetration of fuel tanks, and improvement in the thermal compatibility of films. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

This article is aimed at studying implications of the gravitation theory subject to the idea of seven-dimensional Universe proposed by the author hereof. Using body-orienting Eulerian coordinates as coordinates of seven-dimensional space we can derive the same body motion equations as result from standard equations of classical dynamics of solid bodies. The most attractive implication of this idea is that the notion of force can be excluded from mechanics, as well as the notion of moment of force, and replaced with geometric representations even in case with motion of non-point bodies. Moreover, the sevendimensional Universe theory allows varying in spin rate of body subject to variation in the external gravity potential, which is actually discussed herein.

We discuss the physical meaning of the nonmetricity vector. A relationship between the time derivative of the nonmetricity vector and the Hubble constant is revealed. On the basis of a solution to the equation for the nonmetricity field, it is concluded that the expansion rate of the Universe is different at different points of the Universe. Methods for targeted regulation of the surface properties of polymer film materials (substrates) by fluorination and sulfonation have been considered. It has been shown by the examples of polyethylene, polypropylene, and poly(ethylene terephthalate) films that these methods can be used for the production of polymer films with controlled values of water contact angle from 20° to 88°, adhesion force from 23 to 141 rel. units, and surface roughness parameter Ra from 35 to 382 nm. This set of substrates may be used to optimize the methods for the formation of structured functional polymer surfaces. In particular, the regularities of the formation of solid deposits of colloidal submicron particles during evaporation of droplets of their solutions have been shown to vary with variations in substrate characteristics. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The paper presents a quality assessment method for paint coating surfaces. The method is based on the electron microscopy application to obtain paint coating quality coefficient, to expand representative domain about factors effect on the formation coating distribution in the structure of the substrate and to develop a method of quantitative evaluation of coverage indicator. Practical implementation is demonstrated by assessing the quality of the paint coating applied by printing method on the packaging in the form of conventional images, symbols and signs of the protective and information functions. © 2015 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Color bright visual effects in polyolefin layered film materials for the production of consumer goods packaging are described. A multi-color light reflection by a package of films varies in case of a light angle change, depends on a thickness and number of layers. The relation between anisotropy, crystallinity and nanostructure of polyethylene and polypropylene films and their color in polarized light is identified. The fact of recrystallization of a part of fibrils in heat treatment in the course of films duplicating which reduces the effect of pleochroism is established by differential scanning calorimetry and electron microscopy techniques. The films duplicating processes with a simultaneous marking protecting the packed production against counterfeit are suggested. © 2015 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

We have studied the performance of different methods for processing needlepunched material made from blends of polyester, bicomponent, and polypropylene fibers. The performance of needlepunching and various processing methods depends on the choice of parameters for evaluating the mechanical properties of the materials. A correlation has been found between different parameters used to evaluate the deformation-related and strength-related properties of the original needlepunched materials. A concept for measuring the water-surface backscattering signature using the airborne weather radar, in addition to its standard meteorological and navigation applications, is discussed. The airborne weather radar operates in the ground-mapping mode in the range of high to medium incidence angles as a scatterometer. A case of two-stage rectilinear track flight measurement with a 180° aircraft turn between the stages is considered.
