We introduce a model of one-stage service for a group of stationary objects located along a one-dimensional working zone of a moving processor. For the servicing, the processor sequentially performs two passes between boundary points of the working zone: the direct pass, servicing some of the objects, and the reverse pass, servicing all remaining objects of a group. With each object, we associate an individual penalty function that increases monotonely with the time of finishing its servicing. We formulate design problems for optimal servicing strategies, give algorithms of their solutions, and study the issues of computational complexity. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The energy of plutonium at interfaces with melts of alkali metals is estimated using a modified version of the electron statistical method. The expressions for the polarization correction and temperature contribution are modified with allowance for changes in the electron density at the interface. The temperature dependence of the energy on the faces of plutonium modifications is calculated over a wide range of temperatures. © Allerton Press, Inc., 2014.

The evolution of the structural parameters of deformation fragments and dynamically recrystallized grains in FeNi alloy are analyzed by means of transmission electron microscopy and back-scattered electron diffraction in a Bridgman camera upon severe plastic deformation with an increase in the number of full turns at a room temperature. It is found that the formation of a great many high-angle grain boundaries in the structure is associated with low-temperature dynamic recrystallization. © 2014, Allerton Press, Inc.

This paper addresses issues pertaining to the propagation of ultrashort pulses in the cavities of mode-locked sub-1.3 μm fibre lasers. We demonstrate that multi-mode high-index-ring three-layer optical fibres operating on a single higher order HE1m mode are an effective approach to dispersion compensation. We present optimal parameters of the refractive-index profile in such fibres, which ensure zero first- and second-order chromatic dispersion coefficients at 1.06 μm for the HE12 and HE13 modes, and analyse their dispersion and power parameters. © 2010 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

We have derived analytical formulas for differential and total ionisation probabilities of a two-dimensional quantum dot by a constant electric field. In the adiabatic approximation, we have calculated the probability of this process in the field of a plane electromagnetic wave and in a superposition of constant and alternating electric fields. The imaginary-time method is used to obtain the momentum distribution of the ionisation probability of a bound system by an intense field generated by a superposition of parallel constant and alternating electric fields. The total probability of the process per unit time is calculated with exponential accuracy. The dependence of the results obtained on the characteristic parameters of the problem is investigated. © 2012 Kvantovaya Elektronika and Turpion Ltd.

Floquet-Bloch waves in a bound one-dimensional photonic crystal are considered. It is shown that a single Floquet-Bloch wave can be excited in a one-dimensional photonic crystal located between two homogeneous media. An exact solution of the wave equation corresponding to this case is represented in the form of a set of heterogeneous waves. For the case of incidence of the plane wave from a homogeneous medium on a bounded one-dimensional photonic crystal, the functions for the reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained based on the exact solution of the wave equation. It is shown that the transmission function for the one-dimensional photonic crystal has a form similar to that for the traditional Fabri-Perot interferometer and is determined by the interference of the Floquet-Bloch waves excited in the crystal. The evolution of the amplitude profile of the decaying Floquet-Bloch waves and the reflection spectrum of the bounded one-dimensional photonic crystal are considered in the first-order forbidden band. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The rheological properties of bentonite clay-filled aqueous solutions of high-molecular-mass poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) have been studied. The PEO solution is a typical polymer solution characterized by the highest Newtonian viscosity and the range of non-Newtonian flow. The addition of small amounts of bentonite to the PEO solution causes passage to a viscoplastic behavior that manifests itself as the appearance of the yield stress. Therewith, the flow at the highest Newtonian viscosity in the region of low shear stresses (rather than rates) remains possible. After passing through the yield stress, the effect of antithixotropy, i.e., an increase in the viscosity with the deformation rate in a certain shear rate region, has been observed for the multicomponent systems. The data obtained have been interpreted assuming that the addition of the solid filler to the polymer solution destroys the random network of entanglements between macromolecules, while the presence of the polymer in the clay suspension reduces the strength of the coagulation structure of bentonite. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The physicochemical features of isovalent substitution in III—V compounds are investigated. Systems in which, at low isovalent substitution concentrations, isoelectronic doping occurs rather than the formation of substitutional solid solutions are revealed.
