An approach to the design of bearing units for an axial blood pump is suggested in this work. The design of the system places a limitation on the time of continuous pump operation. Antifriction materials for triboengineering elements were selected, and aspects of biological compatibility of such materials are discussed. The history of development of rotor pumps for artificial and assisted circulation is discussed in this work. Advantages of rotor pumps over pulsating pumps in implanted systems are considered: minimal size, energy consumption, and cost. Major directions in the development of rotor pumps include bearing elements, which determine pump service life. Axial pumps are considered in more detail. A model is proposed for study of the effect of nonelastic qualities of contacting bodies separated by a fine lubricant film on the contact characteristics. The problem is studied of the movement of the fine lubricant film between the rigid spherical surface and the mobile viscoelastic-layer surface rigidly adhering to the base. A unidimensional Kelvin model of the viscoelastic medium serves as the rheological model of the viscoelastic layer. The calculation results show that the pressure is distributed in the viscous elastohydrodynamic point contact film very much differently from the pressure distribution in the UHD contact, particularly at slow sliding velocities. The friction coefficient is a nonmonotonous function of the sliding velocity. The friction coefficient drops at slow velocities to a minimum as the velocity accelerates, and then it grows. ©Allerton Press, Inc., 2010.

Results of simulation of stresses in the test structure of a silicon beam and analytical calculation of piezoelectric modulus d31 of a lead zirconate-titanate (PZT) thin film arranged in the region of an elastic element are presented. The results of investigations aimed at the development and testing of diamond probes for scanning atomic-force microscopy are presented. Plasmochemical deposition of diamond polycrystalline films and selective thermal oxidation were used to manufacture diamond probes. The obtained single-crystal diamond pyramidal tips of micron size had a radius of curvature of 2-20 nm at the top. The diamond tips were attached to a cantilever with an epoxy adhesive and then tested as probes in scanning atomic-force microscopy. Tests have shown that the manufactured diamond probes have appreciable advantages over conventional probes. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2010.

The spin dynamics in a thin layer of a nanocolumn layered magnetic structure during the flow of a spin-polarized current in the presence of magnetic fluctuations is theoretically analyzed.
