The results of a study of lignite samples from the Serchanskoe deposit are presented. It was established that lignite in different sections of the deposit differed in terms of ash content and germanium content. The germanium content varied in a range of 5265–6900 g/t on an ash basis. The yield of free humic acids from lignite was insignificant (no higher than 1.5% on a dry ash-free basis). Germanium in lignite is concentrated in the organic matter. © 2015, Allerton Press, Inc.

The results of experimental studies on an increase in the reactivity of brown coal from the Erkovetskoe deposit upon hydrogenation under a low pressure of hydrogen (10 MPa) by crushing in a vibrating mill and a universal disintegrator activator (UDA) are reported. The high efficiency of the application of UDA technology to coal preparation at the stage of crushing, catalyst supporting, and coal–oil paste preparation on coal liquefaction by hydrogenation is demonstrated. © 2015, Allerton Press, Inc.

The results of experimental studies on the hydrogenation of coals from the promising deposits of Mongolia (Ovdogkhudag, Talbulag, and Tavan Tolgoi) under a low pressure of hydrogen in the presence of high-boiling petroleum products are given.
