After fast-neutron irradiation, uranium-plutonium nitride U 0. 8Pu 0. 2N is shown to acquire a complex structure consisting of a solid solution that is based on the nitrides of uranium, plutonium, americium, neptunium, zirconium, yttrium, and lanthanides and contains condensed phases U 2N 3, CeRu 2, BaTe, Ba 3N 2, CsI, Sr 3N 2, LaSe, metallic molybdenum, technetium, and U(Ru, Rh, Pd) 3 intermetallics. The contents and compositions of these phases are calculated at a temperature of 900 K and a burn-up fraction up to 14% (U + Pu). The change in the composition of the irradiated uranium-plutonium nitride is studied during the electron decay of metallic radionuclides. The kinetics of transformation of U 103Ru 3, 137CsI, 140Ba 3N 2, and 241PuN is calculated. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Source

An optimal control problem is formulated for a class of nonlinear systems for which there exists a coordinate representation transforming the original system into a system with a linear main part and a nonlinear feedback. In this case the coordinate transformation significantly changes the form of original quadratic functional. The penalty matrices become dependent on the system state. The linearity of the transformed system structure and the quadratic functional make it possible to pass over from the Hamilton-Jacoby-Bellman equation (HJB) to the state dependent Riccati equation (SDRE) upon the control synthesis. Note that it is rather difficult to solve the obtained form of SDRE analytically in the general case. In this study, we construct the guaranteed control method from the point of view of the system quality based on feedback linearization of the nonlinear system; the transformation of the cost function upon linearization is examined, as well as the system behavior in the presence of disturbance and the control synthesis for this case. The presented example illustrates the application of the proposed control method for the feedback linearizable nonlinear system. © 2012 American Institute of Physics. Source

The physicochemical characteristics of crystals of oxide sodium vanadate bronze grown from their own melts by the Czochralski method as an advanced material for the development of active probes of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) have been studied. Examples of the application of sodium vanadate bronze single crystals as active probes have been considered. The active probes can be used for the fabrication of nanosized surface layers by the emission of active ions from the structural channels of oxide vanadate bronze on a substrate (emitter) or for cleaning substrate surfaces on the atomic level by gettering impurity ions from a substrate into the oxide bronze channel structure (nanogetter). © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. In this case the coordinate transformation significantly changes the form of original quadratic functional. The penalty matrices become dependent on the system state. The linearity of the structure of the transformed system and the quadratic functional make it possible to pass over from the Hamilton-Jacoby-Bellman equation to the Riccati-type equation with state-dependent parameters upon the control synthesis. Note that it is impossible to solve the obtained form of Riccati equation analytically in the general case. It is necessary to approximate the solution; this approximation is realized by numerical methods using symbolic computer packages or interpolation methods. In the latter case, it is possible to obtain the suboptimal control. The presented example illustrates the application of the proposed control method for the feedback-linearizable nonlinear system. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Source

The formation and growth of new phases in a film (coating)-substrate system is shown to be diagnosed from a change in the shape of the oscillating component of the temperature field on the sample surface that is induced by the radiation of a periodic pulsed laser. For the Mo(10 μm)-Ni(5 mm) system, a change in the coefficient of correlation of the shape of a pyrometric signal and the relative change in the thermal conductivity of the interface are studied experimentally and theoretically during thermal annealing and 9-MeV electron irradiation. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
