The minimum quantity of the high-activity chemical reagent (HACR) that is required for the initiation of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) is determined. The experimental results show that 1–1.3 mg ClF3 (gravity flow from a dosing device), BrF3 on the end of a filling knife, or a few ClF2 + SbF6 - crystals are sufficient for the initiation of titanium–boron or titanium–carbon high-energy powder charge compositions. Since the quantity of HACR required for SHS initiation is very small, the chemical method of initiation can be used for the development of a mobile ignition device for estimating the ignition of various SHS charge compositions under laboratory conditions and for application in standard reactors. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The paper discusses the ways to improve methods and algorithms of the automated control of knowledge, approaches to the establishment and effective functioning of electronic teaching complexes, which include tests of a new generation, and their use is not limited control purpose only. Possibilities of computer-based testing system SCIENTIA are presented. This system is a tool to automate the control of knowledge that can be used for the assessment and monitoring of students' knowledge in different types of exams, self-control of students' knowledge, making test materials, creating a unified database of tests on a wide range of subjects etc. Successful operation of informational system is confirmed in practice during the study of the course of physics by students at Technical University. © 2017, American Institute of Physics Inc. Technologies for accounting of motorways' characteristics with an implementation of automated video monitoring systems allow to automate operations of complex evaluation of motorways and provide means for objective uniform evaluation of motorways' infrastructure condition. The paper presents recommendations for application of video monitoring for purposes of establishing of monitoring and recording and client-server model of motorways. The proposed approach for video monitoring is aimed for improving currently operated accounting systems for data on condition of infrastructure. Key components of video monitoring system for engineering data of transport and operational characteristics of a motorway are studied and practically applied in production by specialists of "Geotrans" laboratory of MADI. © Copyright EM International.

The interference stress relaxation in a composite repair bandage formed on a cylindrical metal surface was studied. The creep of a repair ring bandage under the action of interference stresses was evaluated. The differential effect of technological heredity on the characteristics of adhesives and operating properties of adhesive joints has been considered on the basis of the main technological operations of the bonding process. Based on an expert assessment of the main characteristics of the adhesive material (with the exception of fracture shear stress and ultimate tensile strain), it has been found that technological operations of the bonding process have no effect on technological heredity. This conclusion is controversial; to take into account this effect, we suggest using the synergistic effect. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The relationship of each stage of the process with the mechanics of destruction during operation of parts has been shown by the example of problems of modeling of engineering solutions during the fabrication of parts prepared from polymer materials. When using partially cross-linked thermoplastic filled polymers containing a slight amount of typical components, it has been shown that modeling of process solutions is an iterative process, in which structural defects, which differ by scale levels, are formed during each individual technological operation. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

In Moscow Automobile and Road Construction University, investigations are carried out in the field of Diesel engine working process perfection for complying with prospective ecological standards such as Euro-6 and Tier-4. The article describes the results of the first stage of experimental research of the influence of injection pressure up to 3000 bar on working processes of Diesel engine and its fuel system. Justification of the design of a common rail injector for fuel injection under 3000 bar pressure is presented. The influence of raising injection pressure (up to 3000 bar) on the fuel spray propagation dynamics is demonstrated. The combined influence of injection pressure (up to 3000 bar) and air boost pressure on fuel spray propagation dynamics is shown, including on engine emission and noise.
