VeoVa™ 10-based latex is the latest development that results in superior scrub resistance. The VeoVa™ 10 is the vinyl ester of Versatic acid 10 that is prepared through the vinylation of the corresponding neo-decanoic acid containing 10 carbon atoms. The two main properties of the VeoVa™ 10 are its alkali resistance and hydrophobicity. The VeoVa™ 10 has a similar reactivity as vinyl acetate in radical polymerization. The manufacturing of VA/VeoVa™ 10 is characterized by its ease of production with low reactor fouling and high batch reproductivity. The VeoVa™ 10 is a unique monomer to upgrade vinyl acetate and vinyl acrylic lattices to formulate high performance interior and exterior emulsion decorative wall paints. The VeoVa™ based latex can be designed to be formulated in low VOC emulsion paints and in solvent-free emulsion paints. The increase of content from the latex in the range of 20% to 30% improves both washability and the wet abrasive scrub resistance of the interior decorative paints.

The invention is related to a process for the manufacture of a 1,2-epoxide by catalytic oxidation of a terminal olefin with an oxidant in a multiphasic reaction mixture and at least one organic phase in the presence of a water-soluble manganese complex as oxidation catalyst, comprising the steps of:a) adding the oxidant, the catalyst and the terminal olefin to the reaction mixture and allowing the catalytic oxidation to take place;b) separating the reaction mixture into the at least one organic phase and the aqueous phase; andc) reusing at least part of the aqueous phase.The invention is also related to a device for carrying out the above process.

In which a mixture of neononanoic acids providing soft polymers is a mixture where the concentration of blocked and highly branched isomers is maximum 55% preferably below 40%.

The invention relates to water free curing agents for water dispersed epoxy resins. The curing agent composition offers a binder pot life of several hours and in presence of a metal such as zinc nearly no hydrogen generation was observed. The present curing composition can be mixed with a metal powder such as zinc to provide a storage stable paste. The curing agent composition and/or paste is fully compatible with an epoxy water based resin, after low shear blending the system is storage stable for several hours and keeps the good initial performance of the cured coating.

The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of an epoxyethyl carboxylate or glycidyl carboxylate by catalytic oxidation of a vinyl or allyl carboxylate using an oxidant, preferably hydrogen peroxide, and a manganese complex wherein the catalytic oxidation is performed in an aqueous reaction medium, comprising water with less than 10% by volume of cosolvents, wherein a water-soluble manganese complex is used as oxidation catalyst, characterized in that the water-soluble manganese complex is a mononuclear species of the general formula (1): [LMnX_(3)]Y(I)or a binuclear species of the general formula (II): [LMn(-X)_(3)MnL]Y_(2)(II)wherein Mn is a manganese; L or each L independently is a polydentate ligand, each X independently is a coordinating species and each -X independently is a bridging coordinating species, whereas Y is an oxidatively-stable counterion, and wherein the epoxidation is carried out at a pH in the range of from 1.0. to 7.0. This invention also relates to epoxyethyl esters of neoacids having from 5 to 30 carbon atoms in the acid moiety.
