The aim of the study is to find out if there is a correlation between the serous level of the soluble forms of sCD50, sCD54 adhesion antigens and clinical, laboratory and microbiological indices in patients with a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Materials and methods. 55 patients with a COPD have been examined. They have undergone general clinical examination, spirometry, microbiological study of sputum. A serous content of the sCD50, sCD54 has been detected with an immunoenzymatic method. The results have been compared with the serum samples of the 16 healthy donors. Results. The research has revealed a correlation between the bacterial dissemination degree and lung functional parameters. It confirms the role of chronic bacterial colonization in a COPD progress. The decrease of the serous level of the adhesion antigens correlates with a higher microbic colonization of the lower respiratory tracts. It points to the disturbance of the immunocompetent cell adhesion mechanism in the COPD pathogenesis. The study has revealed the decrease of the adhesion molecule serous content in a process of the COPD patient treatment. This proves to have an unfavorable effect of the antibiotic and systemic glucocorticosteroid therapy on the immunocompetent cell adhesion processes. Source
