Eight tridentate bipyrazole derivatives with different side arms have been prepared in one step and with good yields. The products were screened for their cytotoxic activity against three tumor cell lines - human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB231, human prostate cancer cell line PC3, and human colorectal cell line LoVo, by use of colorimetric MTT assay. Structure-activity relationships reflected the effect of substituted drugs. Among this series, two compounds had remarkable in-vitro antiproliferative activity against the LoVo cell line with IC50 values ranging from 2.6 to 2.7 μg ml-1. All the compounds had suitable drug-like characteristics according to Lipinski's rule. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

A new silica gel material covalently bonded with 1-(pyridin-2-yl) imine (SiNPn) was synthesized and well characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 13C NMR of the solid state, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm, BET surface area, B.J.H. Pore sizes, thermogravimetry curves (TGA), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The new chelating surface exhibits good chemical and thermal stability. The adsorption capabilities of this new system towards toxic metal ions (Hg2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+) were investigated using the batch method. The percentage limits of extraction were determined by atomic absorption measurements. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

An attempt has been made to study the reaction of polar organic molecule N-(hydroxymethyl)-3,5-dimethylpyrazole with a 3-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane silylant agent, previously anchored on a silica surface in a heterogeneous way, to yield the product N,N-bipyrazole-substituted silica (Si-NP2). The product has been characterized through elemental analysis, FTIR, 13C NMR of the solid state, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm, BET surface area, BJH pore sizes, thermogravimetry curves and scanning electron microscope. The binding and extraction abilities of Si-NP2 have been investigated for Hg(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) by batch method and the effect of pH and stirring time is studied. The optimum pH values for the quantitative extraction of these metal ions are found to be 6.0-7.5, and at these pH values, the functionalized silica further improves and shows higher affinity; the sorption capacity is in range of 486-1472 mmol g-1 of chelating matrix. The extracted amounts are determined by atomic absorption measurements.
