Using the NCEP data, a snowstorm process in the west of Hexi Corridor, Gansu Province, from 14 to 15 March, 2005 was simulated by the mesoscale model-MM5. The results show that this snowstorm weather process produces at jet flow axis from low level to high level nearby; the convergence of 600 ∼ 500hPa caused the ground air flow to move upward and formed the ground low-pressure system; the relative humidity maximum value between 750 ∼ 450 hPa is basically consistent with convergence zone, and indicates that there is a water-vapor transfer channel nearby 600hPa. that is consistent with high level jet, the PV of 500 hPa level and ascending motive area and provides the dynamic, thermodynamic and the vapor transfer process conditions for the snowstorm formation. The model - MM5 has simulated the snowstorm region very well, and demonstrates that it has the special forecast ability for this mesoscale weather system.
