The kinetics of martensitic transformation of roll steels with induction heating by a current of industrial frequency are studied. It is shown that martensitic transformation proceeds autocatalytically. The time dependence of the amount of martensite with decomposition of supercooled austenite is established. Critical nuclei dimensions during phase transformation are determined. Martensite crystal growth may be described by a quasidiffusion equation. © 2010 Springer Science + Business Media, Inc. Source

A new production regime has been developed and approved for preliminary heat treatment of steel rolls. The microstructure of steel, from which rolls are manufactured, is studied by electron microscopy after each form of heat treatment.
