Metabolomics is a critical member in systems biology. Although great progress has been achieved in metabolomics, there are still some problems in sample preparation, data processing and data interpretation. In this review, we intend to explore the roles, challenges and trends in sample preparation for mass spectrometry- (MS-) based metabolomics. The newly emerged sample preparation methods were also critically examined, including laser microdissection, in vivo sampling, dried blood spot, microwave, ultrasound and enzyme-assisted extraction, as well as microextraction techniques. Finally, we provide some conclusions and perspectives for sample preparation in MS-based metabolomics. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC

The present study investigated the neural processes underlying "same" and -"different" judgments for two simultaneously presented objects, that varied on one or both, of two dimensions: color and shape. Participants judged whether or not the two objects were "same" or "different" on either the color dimension (color task) or the shape dimension (shape task). The unattended irrelevant dimension of the objects was either congruent (same-same; different-different) or incongruent (samedifferent). ERP data showed a main effect of color congruency in the time window 190-260 ms post-stimulus presentation and a main effect of shape congruency in the time window 220-280 ms post-stimulus presentation in both color and shape tasks. The interaction between color and shape congruency in the ERP data occurred in a later time window than the two main effects, indicating that mismatches in task-relevant and task-irrelevant dimensions were processed automatically and independently before a response was selected. The fact that the interference of the task-irrelevant dimension occurred after mismatch detection, supports a confluence model of processing. © 2013 Zhang et al.

With the rapid development of technology and the widespread use of internet, marketing through social medial will soon become the main channel for marketing. Especially, the middle and small-scale clothing enterprises can greatly improve marketing efficiency through utilizing the social media. As a new emerging marketing channel, there is no guideline to evaluate the effect of marketing through social media. Through studying the social media marketing strategies of small- and middle-scale clothing enterprises, the article made a classification on social media marketing to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of marketing through social marketing in these clothing enterprises. Solutions to existing or current problems are also discussed, in hopes of developing an evaluation system that includes basic modules and direction of data flow. © 2016, Binary Information Press. Background: The relationship between visual working memory (VWM) capacity and resolution of representation have been extensively investigated. Several recent ERP studies using orientation (or arrow) stimuli suggest that there is an inverse relationship between VWM capacity and representation resolution. However, different results have been obtained in studies using color stimuli. This could be due to important differences in the experimental paradigms used in previous studies. Methodology/Principal Findings: We examined whether the same relationship between capacity and resolution holds for color information. Participants performed a color change detection task while their electroencephalography was recorded. We manipulated representation resolution by asking participants to detect either a salient change (low-resolution) or a subtle change (high-resolution) in color. We used an ERP component known as contralateral delay activity (CDA) to index the amount of information maintained in VWM. The result demonstrated the same pattern for both low- and high-resolution conditions, with no difference between conditions. Conclusions/Significance: This result suggests that VWM always represents a fixed number of approximately 3-4 colors regardless of the resolution of representation. © 2014 Ye et al.

The prototypical model of belt drive systems contains a driving pulley, a driven pulley, an actuator and belts. The transverse vibrations of belts are coupled with the vibrations of the driving pulley, driven pulley and actuator. And so, the transverse vibration displacements of belts have effects on the driving pulley, driven pulley and actuator. The transverse vibration displacements of the belts under harmonic excitation were formulated. The variable structure control theory and exponentially approaching law were employed to design the controlling force which controls the tensioner arm orientation, and the transverse vibration displacements of the belts can be effectively restrained under the controlling force. A numerical simulation was made via Matlab to verify the efficiency of the control under the initial conditions and harmonic excitation. The results of numerical simulation demonstrate that under harmonic excitation, the transverse vibration displacements of the belts are reduced.

Despite advances in medical treatments for colon cancer, it remains one of the leaDing causes of cancer-related mortality among men. Thus, more efficacious treatment strategies for colon cancer are needed. Imperatorin is one of the major ingredients present in the root of Angelica dahurica, and has been used in herbal formulations for the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. However, the medical properties of imperatorin remain unclear. In the present study, the anti-proliferative activities of imperatorin were investigated in the HT-29 colon cancer cell line. The results showed that imperatorin significantly inhibited HT-29 colon cancer cell growth with an IC50 value of 78 -M. Imperatorin induced the apoptosis of colon cancer cells through upregulation of p53 and the caspase cascade. Our findings revealed that imperatorin induced cell cycle arrest in the G1 phase. The apoptotic index showed a steady increment when the imperatorin concentration was increased. The results suggest that imperatorin exerts considerable anti-proliferative activities in HT-29 colon cancer cells and highlight the potential of imperatorin as an anticancer agent for colon cancer.

The change rules of high liquid limit clay and high liquid limit silt on wetting-drying cycles were compared and analyzed by analyzing the test results of the height, mass and compression coefficient of the two soils. The change rules of high liquid limit clay and high liquid limit silt were also studied from the mechanism aspect. From the research results, it can be found that the change rule of mass and height of high liquid limit clay is similar with that of high liquid limit silt. The rate of mass change and height change tend to smooth with the increase in the number of wet and dry cycles in these two soils. The change rule of compression coefficient is also similar in these two soils. After one wetting-drying cycle, the increase rate of the compression coefficient of high liquid limit silt and high liquid limit clay is between 40%~180% and 40%~180%, respectively. The compression coefficient of these two soil tend to smooth after three wetting-drying cycles. The compression coefficient of these two soil tend to be equal after five wetting-drying cycles. But the compression coefficient of high liquid limit silt is less than that of high liquid limit clay in wetting-drying cycles. It also can be found that the wetting-drying cycle is an irreversible process for the two soils.
