The aim of the present paper is to identify the slow wave (SW) of the bioelectric activity of the small bowel recorded at the abdominal surface (electroenterogram) to detect which internal record is detected at the abdominal surface. Prony's method was used in this study. Internal and external recordings were acquired simultaneously from fi ve beagle dogs (in 10 recording sessions). Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC) was used to obtain the optimal order of Prony's method, and was calculated for each minute of abdominal and internal myoelectric signal. The optimal order was of p = 29 and q = 1, with a frequency resolution of ?f = 0.06 Hz. The maximum frequency peak on the signal spectrum was found around 0.3 Hz. Prony's method analysis showed that the slow wave can be detected on the abdominal recordings of the intestinal myoelectrical activity without breathing interference and statistically can determine the internal record that corresponds to the record at the abdominal surface.

Consumption of fruits and vegetables provides natural antioxidants in the human diet that are capable of preventing diseases resulting from the action of free radicals. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of organic nutrient solutions on the nutraceutical quality of hydroponic cantaloupe melon (Cucumis melo L.) produced under greenhouse conditions. The applied organic solutions consisted of compost and vermicompost teas and vermicompost leachate, while Steiner nutrient solution was used as a control. Analytical tests were run to determine the antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content of the melon fruits. The nutraceutical quality (antioxidant capacity and phenolic content) of the fruits fertilized with the organic solutions was higher than that of melons fertilized using Steiner solution. Treatment with vermicompost leachate led to the highest antioxidant capacity and phenolic content among all of the treatments, resulting a 46.1% higher in antioxidant capacity (DPPH+ method) and a 29.3% higher phenolic content compared with inorganically fertilized fruits. Vermicompost solutions (leachate and tea) are viable alternatives for use as a nutrient source in the production of hydroponic cantaloupe melon with improved nutraceutical quality under greenhouse conditions. © 2015, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Facultad de Agronomia e Ingenieria Forestal. In fuzzy controllers, the adjusting of scale factors, both input and output, is critical to the performance of the plant being controlled. The adjustment of scale factors in Fuzzy PD+I controllers (FPD+I) is well documented; however, in systems that have control signal saturation, FPD+I requires anti-windup systems (AW) that limit the controller's integral action. The adjustment procedure for FPD+I controllers cannot be used in Fuzzy PD+I controllers with anti-windup system (FPD+I AW), as it increases the overall gain system, which causes oscillatory behaviour and even critical stability in the controlled variable. The main motivation of this research was to have an approach for adjusting Fuzzy PD+I controllers with anti-windup system (FPD+I AW) without having oscillatory behaviour. In order to verify the proposed approach, both the input and output scale factors of a FPD+I AW controller were adjusted and used to control speed in a direct current motor with control signal saturation and were compared with the responses of conventional PID, Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Fuzzy sliding controllers, all with AWs based on tracking back calculation, thereby demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2014 - IOS Press and the authors.

The vinasses are the residual liquid waste after distillation of the ethanol. This distillery effluent generally has a very high chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration and low pH. Anaerobic treatment whit biofilms systems is a well-established technology for the treatment of industrial effluents. The anaerobic inverse fluidized bed reactor (IFBR) has been developed to provide biological treatment of high strength organic wastewater for their large specific surface and their low energy requirements for fluidization. This study describes the performance of IFBR wiThextendospher®, for the treatment of vinasses. The start-up was in batch, increasing gradually the organic load rate (OLR): 0.5, 1.0, 3.3, 6.8 and 10.4 gCOD/L d. Different hydraulic retention times (HRT) were evaluated: 10, 5 and 1 days. During the batch operation, the COD removal obtained was of 81 %, and for OLR of 0.5, 1.0, 3.3, 6.8 gCOD/L d the removal obtained was 58, 67, 59 and 50 % respectively. For a maximum OLR of 10.4 gCOD/L d, the COD removal was 38 %, and the system presented instability and a decrease of yield methane. The methane production initiated after 110 days from the start-up of the IFBR, to organic load rate of 1.0 gCOD/L d. The system reached values in the methane yield from 0.15 up to 0.34 LCH4/g CODremoved, for the different organic load rates. During the operation to a constant OLR of 6.4 gCOD/L d, and a HRT of 1 day, the IFBR reached a maximum efficiency of removal of 52 %. © 2016, Centro de Ciencias de la Atmosfera, UNAM. In the last decade, the interest in physical organogels has grown rapidly with the discovery and synthesis of a very large number of diverse molecules, which used organic solvents at low concentrations. New organogels based on poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) and cellulose acetate (CA) were prepared as thin films to study properties and swelling behavior. In organogels synthesis different crosslinking agent and initiator concentrations were studied. The swelling for PAA/CA organogels was carried out with acetone at 3 different temperatures (30°, 40° and 50 °C) and pH of 6.5 (pHacetone= 6.5). The higher swelling for PAA/CA organogels was 770% for 25PAA/75CA composition ratio with 3%wt N,N'-methylene-bis acrylamide (MBA) and 1%wt potassium persulphate (KPS) at 30 °C. The films were analyzed by FTIR and the presence of functional groups of each polymer was confirmed without secondary reactions. The DSC analysis indicated two glass transition temperatures (Tg); at 106 °C corresponding to PAA and 86 °C, corresponding to CA, respectively, indicative of phase separation, characteristic of gels. Surface morphology was analyzed by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showing smooth surface and small crystal forms.

This paper is devoted to obtain a stabilizing optimal nonlinear controller based on the well known Control Lyapunov-Krasovskii Functional (CLKF) approach, aimed to solve the inverse optimality problem for a class of nonlinear time delay systems. To determine sufficient conditions for the Bellmans equation solution of the system under consideration, the CLKF and the inverse optimality approach are considered in this paper. In comparison with previous results, this scheme allows us to obtain less conservative controllers, implying energy saving (in terms of average power consumption for a specific thermo-electrical process). Sufficient delay-independent criteria in terms of CLKF is obtained such that the closed-loop nonlinear time-delay system is guaranteed to be local Asymptotically Stable. To illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results, a comparative study with an industrial PID controller tuned by the Ziegler-Nichols methodology (Z-N) and a Robust-PID tuned by using the D-partition method is presented by online experimental tests for an atmospheric drying process with time delay in its dynamics.
