The invention relates to a method for processing frozen slices of tissue of biospecimens mounted on or adhered to glass slides, i.e. forming a frozen section (2), and arranged on a carrier (1), the tissue slices preferably having a thickness of between 1m and 50m, more preferred between 2m and 10m, the method comprising the following steps: a.) immersing the frozen tissue slices in a fixative, preferably an alcohol based fixative, more preferred a fixative having the composition of FineFIX, b.) staining the tissue slice, c.) dehydrating the tissue slice, and d.) optionally clearing the tissue slice, wherein steps a.) to d.) are performed by automatically transferring the frozen sections (2) on the carrier (1) between and into and out of at least a container (C1) holding a fixative, preferably an alcohol based fixative, more preferred a fixative having the composition of FineFIX, at least one or optionally more, preferably two containers (C3, C5) holding a staining solution, a container (C6, C7) holding a dehydrating solution, and optionally a container (C8) holding a clearing solution, and wherein the transfer and the time duration during which the tissue slices are in said containers (C) is controlled by a control unit controlling an actuator (10) holding the tissue slices.

A method for fixation of organic tissue samples includes immersing a tissue sample in a solution of Formalin at a temperature of between 2 C. and 10 C. for a first time period (A), and immersing the tissue sample in a cold fixation dehydrating agent for a second time period (B) following the first time period. A method for automatically dosing a fixative solution in a flexible bag containing at least one biological organic sample comprises placing the bag with the sample in a dosing system (e.g., on a holder or weighing device), computing a the required volume or weight of fixative solution as a function of the sample or the bag with the sample, and automatically transferring the computed volume or weight of fixative solution from a storage container into the bag. A system is also described for automatically dosing a fixative solution in a flexible bag containing at least one biological organic sample, a carrier for said flexible bags, and a storage cabinet for storing the carrier.


The present invention relates to a method for collecting and preserving biological specimens for biobanking cryopreservation, comprising the steps of i) placing the specimen in a cooling fluid pre-set at a first predetermined temperature of between -10C and -60C for snap freezing the specimen, and ii) reducing the temperature of said cooling fluid to a second predetermined temperature suitable for preserving said specimen. The second temperature is most preferably -80C. The reduction of the temperature in step ii) is performed by a predetermined cooling profile. The invention is further directed to a corresponding apparatus (1), comprising a receiving means (2) for receiving a cooling fluid and the specimen, a cooling means to cool said fluid in said receiving means, and a controller configured to control the cooling means. The receiving means comprises at least one reservoir (3, 30) and a working plate (4).The cooling means is preferably a stirling cooler using Argon gas.


A hot-plate stirrer comprising at least one non-contact IR temperature sensor and an engagement/positioning means to couple a holder for a glass container for chemicals is disclosed. Furthermore a holder for a glass container for chemicals is disclosed. The holder comprises an engagement/positioning means to couple to an engagement/positioning means of the hot-plate stirrer.
