Millions of non-engineered constructions in Indonesia are vulnerable to earthquake. Therefore, a simple, affordable and replicable method to strengthen the existing non-engineered construction in Indonesia is introduced. The retrofitting method described in this report is based on the principle of sandwich structures, having a masonry wall as core and covered on both sides with ferrocement layers. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), panic disorder is one type of anxiety disorder. There have been few detailed reports on the relationship between suicide and panic disorder. We examined the comorbidities and personality inventory tendencies in panic disorder with an increased suicide risk. Our participants were patients with panic disorder. We found that an increased risk of suicide must be kept in mind when treating patients with panic disorder that is accompanied by mood disorders or anxiety disorders. This study also found that such patients are thought to be “very sensitive and emotional and easily distracted”, “introverted, humble and serious”, and “hedonistic”. The risk of suicide must be ascertained during the treatment of panic disorder. © 2016, Chevron Publishing Corporation. All rights reserved.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is characterized by strong fear and anxiety during social interactions. Although ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC) activity in response to emotional stimuli is related to pathological anxiety, little is known about the relationship between VLPFC activity and social anxiety. This study aimed to investigate whether VLPFC activity was involved in SAD and whether VLPFC activity was related to the level of social anxiety. Twenty-four drug-naïve patients with SAD and 35 healthy controls underwent near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) scanning while performing a verbal fluency task (VFT). Results indicated that, compared to the healthy controls, the SAD patients exhibited smaller changes of oxygenated hemoglobin (oxy-Hb) concentrations in the VLPFC during the VFT. Furthermore, the right VLPFC activation was negatively correlated with social avoidance. In contrast to the latter, the healthy controls exhibited a positive correlation between changes of oxy-Hb concentrations in the bilateral VLPFC and social fear. Our findings provide evidence for VLPFC dysfunction in SAD, and indicate that the VLPFC dysfunction may contribute to the difference between normal and abnormal social anxiety. © 2015 The Authors. Uterine rupture rarely occurs during pregnancy, but it is a critical situation if so. It is already known that a history of uterine surgeries, such as cesarean section or myomectomy, is a risk factor for uterine rupture. Currently, the laparoscopic adenomyomectomy is a widely performed procedure, but associated risks have not been defined. We observed a case of spontaneous uterine rupture in a patient during the 35th week of gestation, after a laparoscopic adenomyomectomy. A 42-year-old, gravida 2, para 0 woman became pregnant after a laparoscopic adenomyomectomy and her pregnancy was conventional. At a scheduled date in the 35th week of gestation, after combined spinal epidural anesthesia and frequent uterine contractions, a weak pain suddenly ensued. After 13 minutes of uterine contractions, vaginal bleeding was evident. A cesarean section was performed, and the uterine rupture was found in the scar. After a laparoscopic adenomyomectomy, a pregnant uterus can easily rupture by rather weak and short uterine contractions, and is characterized by vaginal bleeding. When uterine bleeding is observed in pregnant women that have a history of adenomyomectomy, one should consider uterine rupture. © 2016 Nagao et al.

In order to develop a new mixing procedure, we conduct DNS (direct numerical simulation) of dynamic controlled free jets. As the dynamic control, it is assumed that the inflow velocity of jet is alternately rotated around streamwise direction. To realize the high accurate computation, the discretization in space is performed with hybrid scheme in which sine or cosine series and 6th order compact scheme are used. From view of instantaneous vortex structures, it is found that the flow pattern considerably changes according to the rotating frequency, i.e., according to the increasing frequency, helical and entangled mode appear in turn. From the ensemble averaged flow properties such as jet width and entrainment, it is confirmed that the jet widely spreads perpendicular to the rotating axis and that the mixing of upstream jet is markedly enhanced due to the dynamic control. Further in order to quantify the mixing efficiency of the dynamic control, as another mixing measure, a statistical entropy is examined. Compared to the uncontrolled jet, it is confirmed that the mixing efficiency is markedly improved, suggesting that the dynamic control can be expected to be useful for the improvement of mixing performance. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Abstract Synthesis of (±)-muscopyridine analogue was accomplished via the bicyclo-2-pyridone as a key intermediate, which was synthesized using ring-expansion reaction of the cyclic β-keto methyl ester with the alkynyl imine. The bicyclo-2-pyridone was transformed into the (±)-muscopyridine analogue in the following four steps in high yields: deprotection, pyridine formation, methylation, and hydrogenation. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
