Background: Signals originated from mitochondria can affect other intracellular compartments. Results: Decreased levels in mitochondrial cyclophilin D promote cell proliferation and cell motility via chemokine/STAT3 signaling. Conclusion: Mitochondria regulate nuclear gene expression.
