The geography of the soils is needed for understanding the landscape. Recently, soil geography have grown beyond the knowledge of the occurrence of soils and their properties by highlighting their protection. This paper presents soil in Boĉ hills. Due to steep leg-permeable substratum and slow decomposition of organic matter the process of soil formation is slow. Insight into their properties opens new knowledge, primarily in terms of the humidity. Moisture in the soil is essential for both plant growth and the formation of humus; both significantly contribute to the protection of soils.

The developed world excessively uses natural resources. Such consumption is already threatening current and future generations. As one of the possible alternatives to reduce consumption of natural resources we propose the development concept of ecovillages. A textbook example of such approach is already known in the case of Findhorn in Scottland. We have similar projects in Slovenia and visible results as well. This paper presents the principles of ecovillages in Europe and in Slovenia.
