Biodiesel is an alternative to the diesel fuel that can be produced from different kinds of vegetable oils. It is an oxygenated, non-toxic, sulphur-free, biodegradable, and renewable fuel and can be used in diesel engines without any hardware modifications. In the present work, the cottonseed oil methyl ester was prepared by a method of transesterification process. The experiment was conducted in a direct injection (DI) marine diesel engine with diesel and biodiesel blends of 20 % and 100% in volume with different load conditions. The effects of biodiesel addition to diesel fuel on the performance, emissions and combustion characteristics in a diesel engine were examined. A small increase in specific fuel consumption (SFC) and brake thermal efficiency (BTE) for biodiesel and its blends were observed when compared with diesel fuel. The significant reduction of hydro carbon (HC) and smoke emission were found for biodiesel and its blends at full loads. Nitrogen oxide (NO) was slightly higher for biodiesel and its blends. The significant reduction of NO and a marginal increase in CO2 were found when selective catalytic reduction (SCR) method was used. The use of transesterified cottonseed oil can be partially substituted for the diesel fuel at most operating conditions in terms of the performance parameters and emissions without any engine modification. © Research India Publications. The speed of the microprocessors is being increasing faster than the speed of off-chip memory. When multiprocessors are used in the system design, more number of processors requires added accesses to memory. Accessing off-chip memory takes more time than accessing an on-chip cache, and some more time to execute an instruction. Cache compression presents the confront that the processor speed has to be improved but it should not substantially increase the total chip power consumption. This architecture has number of new features adapted for the application. In the proposed work if there are consecutive zero's or one's then there patterns are encoded and the dictionary matching is bypassed. By this method the speed and the power can be improved without affecting the performance of the system cache. © 2012 IEEE. Source

The most popular medical diagnostic tool is the ultrasound imaging. It is easy, inexpensive; it is noninvasive and does not require ionizing radiation. However the ultrasound images contain speckle noises and echo perturbations which make diagnosis difficult. In certain cases the noises can restrain information which is important for the general practitioners. This paper presents the four stage noise reduction technique in the median filtering to remove the speckle noises that present in the ultrasound thyroid images. By implementing this process the noisy pixels were replaced by the nearer good pixels. Using this filtering method the general practitioner can diagnosis the image without losing any important information in the thyroid ultrasound image. © Research India Publications. Source

Recently, most of the biodiesel is produced from edible oils using methanol and an alkaline catalyst. However, large amount of non edible oils are available in India. Often the non edible oil contain high amounts of free fatty acids(FFA), which quickly react with the alkaline catalyst to produce soap then slow down the separation of the ester and glycerin. In the present study, high free fatty acid (14.71%) Ceiba pentandra seed oil was used as a source for biodiesel production. A two-step transesterification process is developed to convert the high FFA oils to its mono-esters. The first step reduces the acid value of the oil to less than 2mg KOH/g of oil using the acid catalyst (H2SO4) and methanol. The second step, alkaline catalyzed transesterification process converts the products of the first step to its mono-esters and glycerol. The reaction parameters such as molar ratio, catalyst concentration, reaction temperature and reaction time were optimized for production of Ceiba pentandra oil methyl ester are analyzed. The two-step esterification procedure converts of crude Ceiba pentandra oil to its methyl esters. The yield of methyl esters from Ceiba pentandra oil under the optimal condition was 92-93%. The viscosity of biodiesel oil is nearer to that of diesel and the calorific value is less than that of diesel because of their oxygen content. The important properties of biodiesel such as density, flash point, fire point and cetane number are found out and compared with that of diesel. This study supports the biodiesel production from nonedible Ceiba pentandra seed oil as a viable alternative to the diesel fuel. © 2006-2014 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN). Source
