The inhibition efficiency of mercapto triazoles N-{3-[(4-chloro phenoxy)methyl]-5-mercapto-4H-1,2,4-triazole-4-yl}benzamide (MTZ1), N-{3-mercapto-5-[(4-nitro phenoxy)methyl]-4H-1,2,4- triazole-4-yl}benzamide(MTZ2), N-{3-[(3-bromophenoxy)methyl]-5-mercapto)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-4-yl}benzamide(MTZ3) and complementary effect of halide ions on mild steel has been studied using weight loss method. The inhibition efficiency increases with the increases in the concentration of triazoles with a fixed concentration of halide ions (Cl-.Br- and I- ions). Experiments are carried at a temperature of 303K. The thermodynamic parameters Ea and ΔG were evaluated. The results showed that these compounds are physically adsorbed over the surface of the steel, blocking the corroding sites. Source

We have performed measurements of the dielectric constant in the isotropic liquid and anisotropic liquid crystalline (nematic) phases of a binary system, in which one component has molecules with a strongly polar longitudinal group, and the other has a weakly polar transverse group. The transition between the two phases, being weakly first order, exhibits pretransitional effects signifying the appearance of the nematic-like regions in the isotropic phase. Unlike a typical polar liquid, the liquid phase of the strongly polar component of the binary mixture exhibits a convex shaped anomaly in its dielectric constant on approaching the nematic phase. We comment on the effect of the weakly polar component on the magnitude of this anomaly, as well as the nonlinear variation of the dielectric anisotropy. © 2012 American Institute of Physics. Source

Herein, we report an efficient and convenient method for synthesis of benzofuran-3-acetic acids and naphthafuran-acetic acids 5a-p by the reaction of substituted-4-bromomethylcoumarins with aqueous sodium hydroxide at refluxing temperature. The obtained products are characterized by infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectral data. Structures 5a and 5e are confirmed by their single x-ray diffraction studies. A series of new iodinated-4-aryloxymethylcoumarins 6, 8 and 10 have been obtained from the reaction of various 4-bromomethylcoumarins 4 with 2-iodophenol 5, 3-iodophenol 7 and 4-iodophenol 9 respectively. All the title compounds were screened for anticancer activity against two cancer cell lines (MDA-MB human adenocarcinoma mammary gland and A-549 human lung carcinoma) and two mycobacterial strains (Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37 RV and Mycobacterium phlei). The SAR results indicate that nine compounds are potent, among these 10h and 10i having chlorine are most effective. This is the first report assigning in vitro anti-mycobacterial, anticancer and structure-activity relationship for this new class of iodinated-4-aryloxymethyl-coumarins. © 2014 Elsevier Masson SAS. Petroleum ether extract of Citrus medicaseeds, administered orally (400 mg/kg body weight) for 30 days to induce infertility and changes in various female reproductive activities were evaluated in Wistar strain Albino rats. The treatment results were analysed on thegravimetric, histological, histometric and biochemical parameters and based on these changes the fertility indices were assessed. Histologically, ovary and uterus in extract-treated rats showed reduced number of healthy follicles, regressing follicles and also elevation in corpora lutea in the Group I and II. For the study of withdrawal effects of this extract in Group III, after the changes in ovarian and uterine parameters, the results indicated that the animals returned to normalcy and regained gonadotrophin secretion similar to that of control rats.
