Carbon steel plates are used in bridge construction, shipbuilding, pressure vessels, piping, cranes, commercial vehicles, and construction/earthmoving machinery. Depending on the individual application, the plates are quenched and tempered after austenitizing to obtain specified properties such as strength, hardness, wear resistance, and abrasion resistance. For rolled steel products such as plate, the thermal process consists of three stages: • Austenitizing • Quenching • Tempering These process stages are defined specifically for the material and application, and are provided in Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) diagrams. When producing individual parts, it is generally possible to take the time constraints for these processes into consideration without any problems. In contrast, the continuous processing normally required for a plate production line poses considerable challenges for plant design and construction. The quality of the end product is determined by temperature control during heating, quenching and tempering. The specified microstructure can on be achieved for a specific material grade and plate size if the times and temperatures laid down in the CCT diagram are followed within very tight tolerances. A mathematical model was developed to calculate the optimum quenching parameters for hardening wheel rims. The mathematical model receives input including the properties to be met by the finished wheel and then calculates quenching parameters from the wheel geometry and the material composition. The model initially calculates the cooling curve. Using the heat transfer properties of the nozzles at different pressures and flow rates, the model then calculates the ideal settings for the individual nozzles with a view to achieving the calculated temperature plot. The model calculates the appropriate parameters in line with the applicable standards.

The result has been the development of a new market sector, which is likely to remain the fastestgrowing sector in the steel plate industry in the future. New material grades and increasingly stringent strength, corrosion resistance and forming specifications are some of the requirements resulting from market trends towards leaner steel structures bringing greater benefits in use. In order to meet these requirements, it is necessary to deploy not only advanced rolling mill technology but also innovative heat treatment, allowing the specifications to be met in line with customers' requirements and at reasonable cost.

A roller bearing replacement device for replacement or exchange of a roller bearing of a roller hearth furnace includes a housing that can be sealed off from the environment or external atmosphere that has a sluice through which access to the roller bearing of the roller hearth furnace that is to be replaced from the inside of the housing while excluding the external atmosphere is possible, and at least one roller bearing handling device that is designed for demounting and installing roller bearings and is arranged moveably in the housing and which can be at least partly moved out of the housing through the sluice. Roller bearing replacement or exchange is possible without the roller bearing getting tilted or twisted through its movement during demounting or assembly as the case may be in the roller hearth furnace. The roller bearing replacement device furthermore has a height adjusting device that is coupled with the housing; this height adjusting device is designed and constructed to position the housing vertically and to align the housing on a horizontal plane.

A solution should be created in a radiant heating apparatus that economically makes available in a constructively simple manner a simplified and improved possibility of monitoring the radiant heating apparatus. This is achieved with a radiant heating apparatus for a furnace system in which a monitoring apparatus for determining a current pressure is provided in the combustion air line and/or in the combustion gas line immediately in front of the entrance into the housing of the at least one burner which apparatus outputs the currently determined pressure to a burner control. The burner control is designed in such a manner that it compares the currently determined pressure with a predetermined limit value and/or it compares a pressure difference p formed from a currently determined pressure and a pressure of a corresponding collector line with a predetermined limit value. Furthermore, the burner control outputs a signal indicating a leakage of the ceramic radiant heating pipe if the currently determined pressure drops below the predetermined limit value and/or if the pressure difference p formed from currently determined pressure and a pressure of a corresponding collector line exceeds a predetermined limit value.
