Series of experiments on high-temperature ('dead', i.e. absolutely complete) and low-temperature (suphatising) roasting in the pilot fluidised bed furnace were carried out within the development of efficient technology of Udokan deposit copper concentrate processing. Sulfuric acid leaching was applied to roasted products (cinders and dust). Material composition of concentrate feed, roasted products and hydrometallurgical processing cakes were studied, using scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. Ferrites, spinels, and residual sulfides were found to be the basic copperbearing elements, insoluble at leaching. Moreover, unstable copper impurities were revealed among the minerals in non-metallic concentrate part. The soluble part of roasted products included sulfate and oxide components. There was investigated the dependency of indices of cinders hydrometallurgical processing on material composition and roasting conditions. The most favourable ratio of soluble and insoluble components in cinders was achieved by sulfatising roasting. The dust samples research revealed that, generally, all dust samples were less oxidized (in comparison with cinders) and contained substantial amount of sulfide particles. Thus, the dusts cannot be directly delivered to the leaching circuit. Recirculation of dusts to the fluidised bed furnace is recommended for additional roasting. On the basis of obtained results, optimal roasting conditions were selected, ensuring minimum content of non-liberated particles in cinders. One of the world's largest deposits of complex oxide-sulfide copper ores is Udokan deposit, located in Chita Oblast (Russia). Development of this deposit will be started in the nearest future. Low Fe content in concentrate (3-4% (wt.)) with high silicon dioxide grade (35-45%) is the peculiarity of copper sulfide concentrates, obtained via ore concentration. Two pyrometallurgical processing methods are described in this work: smelting with obtaining of blister copper in two-zone Vanukov furnace; concentrate roasting in fluidized bed furnace with following cinder reduction smelting in direct current electric furnace. There are described the results of researches in laboratory and enhancedlaboratory scale. Comparative analysis of offered technological flowsheets was carried out, discussing their advantages and disadvantages. Various technological schemes, including two pyrometallurgical methods, are considered for Udokan concentrate processing: complete oxidizing concentrate roasting in fluidized bed furnaces; cinder smelting in direct current electric furnaces with obtaining of semi-blister copper, with further refining and obtaining of anode copper; concentrate smelting in Vanukov furnace with blister copper obtaining with further refining and obtaining of anode copper. This work had the following purposes: experimental verification of both technological schemes; calculation of basic technological indices, energy carrier and flux consumptions on the basis of obtained results; and comparative analysis of two processes with the choice of the most suitable one for industrial use. © Designed by: "Ore and Metals" Publishing House.

Udokan copper deposit is one of largest undeveloped copper deposits in the world. The deposit ore grade is about 1-2%. Silver is an associated component. Udokan copper deposit contains sulphide and oxide copper-bearing minerals, which overlay one another almost on the whole territory of the deposit. This paper provides the main results of marketing research on marketability of copper concentrates, which formed the requirements to the final product, obtained by the process flow sheet. Laboratory studies were carried out for development of Udokan deposit ores' process flow sheet. The test work used four composite samples of Udokan ores, representing oxide, sulphide and mixed ore types of the deposit. In the course of the studies, the following main process parameters were determined: the required grind size at each stage; reagents consumption rate; bulk flotation time; pH of leaching; time of leaching; grind size for sulphide flotation; number of cleaner flotation stages; flotation time. The developed process flow sheet ensures marketable products manufacturing (sulphide concentrate with 40-45% of Cu and cathode copper) with high extraction for sulphide, oxide and mixed Udokan deposit ores, which makes possible to carry out both the processing of all ore types by the same process flow sheet, and elimination of selective mining organization, which is very difficult due to the deposit specifics. © Designed by: "Ore and Metals" Publishing House.

This article shows the main results of studies of use of autoclave processing in platinum-group metals' metallurgy. These studies were carried out in R&D department of Polar Division of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC. Two-stage autoclave leaching of copper and nickel slime in sulfuric and alkaline solutions was studied. There was made an observation, that this process allows to recover not less than 99 and 95% of nickel and iron and up to 95-97% of selenium into solution. Optimum conditions of the process are presented together with main reactions. A method of autoclave dissolution in chloride solutions was developed for transfer of platinum metals into solution. There was established that the following conditions make an influence on platinum metals dissolution degree: temperature of 160-200 o?; oxygen pressure of 1.4-0.4 MPs; chloride ion consumption; S:L ratio within the range from 1:10 to 1:2. The speed of dissolution of platinum metals and gold was established on the basis of kinetic curves. There were defined the high efficient organic reagents and optimum conditions (temperature, process duration, reagent consumption) for sedimentation of platinum-group metals from complex solutions. On the basis on kinetic curves of sedimentation and electronic spectrums of solution loss, there was suggested to use the stages in platinum metals processing. The developed method successfully passed the pilot plant tests. The tests showed that autoclave settling of platinum metals (using carbonylating reagents) is characterized by high sedimentation speed, high degree of recovery of platinum metals from various content solutions with minimal co-sedimentation of impurities, and absence of contamination by reagent decomposition products.

Variability test works on flotation and hydrometallurgical flowsheet were carried out on 157 representative samples with the copper grade from 0.10% to 6.43% and oxidation grade from 1% to 96%. Increasing of oxidation degree decreased the copper recovery and increased the values' variability. No definite dependence was observed on copper recovery into bulk concentrate from the copper content in ore in the whole oxidation range. A slight correlation was between these parameters in narrower oxidation ranges (0-30; 30-70; 70-100 %). The results of analysis of oxide and sulphide copper content in tailings showed that higher oxidation leads to less sulphide copper losses and more oxide copper losses in tailings. A steady positive correlation dependence was between copper and silver recovery. Silver recovery index was lower than copper recovery index by 3-10%, in average. Sulphuric acid consumption for rock dissolving was in linear dependency from the calcium content in ore. On the basis of obtained data, it is possible to forecast certain process parameters for Udokan ore processing, using flotation and hydrometallurgical process flowsheet, depending on the head ore quality. It was confirmed that the developed flotation and hydrometallurgy flowsheet allows to carry out the processing of a wide range of various composition Udokan ores, obtaining high recovery values.

Nowadays, copper electrolytic slags of Polar Division of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC and "Kola MMC" JSC are the primary channel of supplement of silver into the technological cycle of Copper Plant's metallurgical shop. As a result of many-year researches, specialists from the Polar Division of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC developed various methods of selective extraction of silver from copper electrolytic slags during their processing. In spite of high efficiency, extraction of silver in industrial conditions does not exceed 50% during the usage of technological scheme, which is currently applied in Copper Plant. Basically, limited extraction is connected with incomplete transfer of silver into solution on the operation of leaching of copper slag cinder. As it was substantiated, it is not possible to realize the complete transfer of silver into solution on this operation within exhisting technology, because of the content of silver in initial slags composition in the chloride form. The following alternative schemes of silver extraction were developed within the foregoing problem solving: - the scheme of selective extraction of silver from marketable concentrates of platinum metals KP-1 (L∏-1), KP-2 (K∏-2) and OK (OK), which silver content reaches 55% (wt.); - processing scheme of cakes of purification of waste gases of secondary anodes smelting in the furnaces EAF-1,5 (∏C∏-1,5), which silver content reaches to 30% (wt.); - processing scheme of cinders of copper slags with the stage of cakes leaching in sodium sulphite and single-stage sedimentation of silver. Introduction of proposed technical decisions makes it possible to do the following operations: - increasing of selective extraction of silver from 50 to 80%; - decreasing of duration of technological cycle of slags processing; - increasing of quality of concentrates of platinum metals KP-1 (K∏-1), KP-2 (K∏-2).

One of priority directions of improvement of processing technology of copper and nickel electrolytic slags in metallurgical shop of Polar Division of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC is searching and development of the following new approaches: - approaches of decreasing of amount of precious metals in goods-inprocess; - approaches of excluding of losses of precious metals with solutions, removed from technological cycle. Various researches were held within the solution of this task by specialists from the Polar Division of "Norilsk Nickel" MMC. During these researches, there were tested the sedimental, sorption and electrochemical methods of extraction of precious metals. There was also researched the influence of basic physical and chemical factors on the transfer of platinum group metals into solutions in the processes of leaching of electrolyte slags' cinders. Wide range of oscillations of contents of platinum group metals in solutions is mostly connected with instability of chemical composition of processed slags. Concentrations of sulphuric acid and chloride ion in solutions are the basic factors, which make a significant influence on the transfer of platinum group metals. On the basis of carried out researches, there were developed new approaches and schemes of selective extraction of platinum group metals from solutions of leaching of cinders of copper and nickel electrolyte slags. In conditions of operating production of copper plant's metallurgical shop, these methods make it possible to do the following operations: - extraction of a part of precious metals into "rich" sediments, containing more than 60% (mas.) of precious metals; - significant decrease of quantity of precious metals in work in progress; - provision of precious metals content in released technological solutions of copper plant's metallurgical shop within the regulated values.

This paper shows the results of semi-industrial testings of the developed flotation-hydrometallurgical flowsheet for Udokan deposit ore processing, carried out in 2013-2014 at the experimental-industrial complex of LLC "Baikal Mining Company". The Complex productivity was 1.0-1.5 t of ore per hour. Approximately 850 t of ore was totally processed for the period of testings. Extraction of oxidized copper in solution during the atmospheric leaching of bulk concentrate was stably high. Consumption of the "fresh" sulfuric acid on rock minerals during the atmospheric leaching in the balance period of operation was 8-12 kg of ore per ton. The performance standards of the contour of counter-current decantation and band filter were defined during the testing process. According to this, there was made a conclusion about the reasonability of application of counter-current decantation operation in flowsheet. The extractants ACORGA M5774 (Sytec) and Lix 984N (BASF) were tested. There was semi-industrially confirmed the possibility of copper concentrate obtaining with more than 40% of copper and cathode copper M00K (according to the State Standard GOST 859- 2001). During the semi-industrial testings, the throughout recovery of copper into marketable products was 83-84%. The obtained results confirmed the indicators of laboratory flowsheet testings. The developed technology was the basis of technological regulations and technical-economic substantiation of constant exploration conditions of Udokan deposit.
