Magnetization roasting of Fe 2O 3 in the tailings of roasting-cyaniding process was studied, with coal as a reducing agent in roasting operation. The Fe in the tailings existed as Fe 2O 3 through phase analysis of ferric compounds. Main operating factors influenced on the reduction degree were investigated. The main factors were quantity addition of coal, roasting temperature and time. The results showed that the Fe 3O 4 could be obtained through magnetization roasting with coal as a reducing agent. The magnetization roasting conditions were optimized as follows: the roasting temperature was 750°C, the roasting time was 1 h, the quantity addition of coal was 10%. Under the optimized conditions, the reduction degree of the Fe 2O 3 reached to 51.7% and the magnetite in the roasting slag reached to 72.75%.
