In the overheads of debutanizer ( T-204 ) and deethanizer ( T-205 ) in the 1. 80 MM TPY hydrocracking unit of Liaoning Huajin Tongda Chemical Co. , Ltd. , the H2S content was as high as 54 670 mg/m3 and 26 696 mg/m3 respectively, and severe corrosion occurred in the two towers. The analysis of the corrosion concluded that the main overhead corrosion was H2S-NH3-H20 type corrosion which was mainly caused by ammonia, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen cyanide. Tests were performed by using XAY-3315 corrosion inhibitor with both neutralization and filming performances. The application of this inhibitor could not only rapidly neutralize the H2S dissolved in the trace water and elevate the pH value of the trace water but also form the dense protection film to isolate the base metal from corrosive media. When XAY-3315 corrosion inhibitor was injected into the overhead reflux line, the average pH value of overhead sour water was extended to 8. 2 from 7.0, the average Fe2+ was reduced to 2. 7 mg/L and 2. 5 mg/L from 3. 2 mg/L and the operating cycle of the unit was extended to more than 2 years from 6 months. The tests results show that the application of XAY-3315 corrosion inhibitor has effectively mitigated the overheads corrosion of deethanizer and debutanizer.
