In this article the present recommendations for immunization of adult patients who received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-a common procedure in therapy of many types of hematological diseases and serious inborn defects of the immune system-are reviewed and discussed. Patients that undergo this kind of transplantation procedure exhibit, compared to the general population, an elevated susceptibility of immune-preventable infections, due to loss of the humoral and cellular protective immunity. A revaccination strategy for transplanted patients can result in a significant diminution of morbidity and mortality related to the treatment of these diseases. Few data are published about the duration and magnitude of the vaccination response in this specific population of patients. Moreover, deviation from international guidelines recommendations for post-transplant immune prophylaxis can be observed frequently, partly as a result of the absence of specific vaccines in some countries. Multiple factors as intensity of the pharmacologic immune suppression, myeloablative regimen, administration of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, duration of the post-transplant period or the presence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), can influence the immune response and establish special considerations for certain biological agents, as observed in case of living attenuated virus composed vaccines. This conditions are responsible for the fact that an optimal time point for vaccination of transplanted patients remains not clearly defined. More specific studies about the underlying immunological mechanisms during immunocompromised periods are necessary to understand better the immunogenicity and security of existing vaccines. The development of innovative vaccines as well can induce certain advances in the post-transplant therapy. © 2016, Sociedad Chilena de Infectologia. All rights reserved.

The aim of the present work is to evaluate the emphatic orientation, considering the gender and course factors, in Odontology students in the Health Sciences Faculty of the Latin American University of Sciences and Technology in Costa Rica. The sample was composed of 225 students from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th levels in Odontology Studies. They were inquired using a tool called The Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy-Student Version (JSPE-S) during a week, a determined day per level. After carrying out the statistical analysis, it was found that the higher levels show higher levels of empathetic orientation than the rest of the courses examined in both genders. It is due to the increase of the students' clinical practice at the end of the studies and to the responsibility and commitment they achieve with their patients. Also, in general, empathetic orientation is higher in females than in males and it is evolving differently through years of studies. © 2013 2002, Editorial Ciencias Médicas.

Since ancient times mankind has had a marked preference for sweet foods. Sweeteners provide the same sensations as sugar. Stevia has been used for many years for a variety of purposes, both as a sweetener and medicine, especially in the management of diabetes by reducing plasma glucose levels and insulin, suggesting that Stevia could help in glucose regulation. It is a white crystalline compound (stevioside) that is a natural herbal sweetener without calories, and is between 100 to 300 times sweeter than sugar. The stevioside seems to have little or no acute toxicity. Its use as supplement is safe and does not stimulate appetite, so there is no risk of weight gain in its consumption.

Objective: To determine the association between nutritional status and body image perception among university students from Chile and Panamá. Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted among 792 students of both sexes, ages 18 to 30 years, from University Santo Tomás of Viña del Mar, Chile, University Autónoma of Chile and University Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología (ULACIT) of Panama. We determined the real BMI and the perceived BMI. Afterward, the two were compared to each other. Results: In a sample of 792 students, 480 from Chile (51,4% females) and 312 from Panamá (56,7% females), the perceived BMI is higher than the real one in the Chileans, men and women (60%). Instead, in Panamá the overestimation is less than 50% in both sexes. The percentage is the same in both countries and both sexes that perceive themselves as they really are (20%). There is concordance between BMI and body image in half of Chilean men and a third of Chilean women. However, a better concordance is observed in overweight students (69% in men, 90,5% in women). In Panamanians, there is a concordance observed of 40% in men and 19,9% in women. Conclusion: There is a tendency for overestimation in normal weight students of both countries. However the obese students tended to underestimate their weight.

Pruritus vulvae is a fairly common condition with significant repercussions on the psychological and sexual well-being of women. It is a symptom rather than a disease, thus the cause should always be investigated. It is mostly due to vulvar skin disorders; however, many systemic entities may precipitate pruritus vulvae.

Coronoid hyperplasia is a rare entity of unknown etiology due to increased and persistent bone growth that has been associated with trauma, inflammation, hormonal influence and hypervascularization. A case of coronoid hyperplasia in a pediatric patient with restriction in mandibular movements and an absence of painful symptoms initially misdiagnosed as a functional temporomandibularjoint (TMJ) abnormality is presented. Causative factors and management strategies are emphasized to enhance the recognition and understanding of mandibular hypomobilities.

The main objective of this study is to assess the capability of a small and medium-sized enterprise's measurement system (Foundry Shop). An attribute agreement analysis, using binary and nominal data, was applied. Having defined the standard according to the voice of customer, a total of 56 random samples were measured. The results showed a Kappa value of 0.37 for operator A, and 0.55 for operator B. With these values the research project identified the need to improve and align the inspections with the standard. Hence, a manual of defect has been proposed as well as some instruments in order to check quality characteristics like roundness and correct rough-hew of the parts.
