An expanded triptycene (hexaphenylbenzene based triptycene) monomer was synthesized from triiodotriptycene. Using this monomer, two kinds of organic microporous polymers HTPs (HTP-A and HTP-B) were prepared by Friedel-Crafts and Scholl reactions. Their structure and properties were characterized by FT-IR, solid 13C NMR, powder XRD, SEM, TEM and gas absorption. Nitrogen sorption analysis displayed that the BET surface areas are 569 and 914 m2 g-1 for HTP-A and HTP-B, respectively. For HTP-B, they can reversibly absorb 1.09 wt % H2 (1.0 bar and 77 K) and 10.3 wt% CO2 (1.0 bar and 273 K), respectively. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

Due to the toxic and un-dissolvable properties, the medical application of realgar (As4S4) has always been limited for a long time. In this study, a novel method of dissolving realgar by immobilized Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A. ferrooxidans) is introduced. The characterizations of dissolving realgar are carried out by means of SEM, ICP-AES, XRD and FTIR. The results suggest that the bio-transformation process is influenced by extracellular substances such as pH value and the oxidation of Fe2 +. These extracellular substances affect the concentration of arsenic in bio-transformation solution rather than A. ferrooxidans. Present study reveals the novel application of A. ferrooxidans. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We aimed to assess the risk of infections caused by sexual practices and determine the factors affecting the prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and syphilis among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Lanzhou, China. A survey including 600 MSM was conducted from March 2008 to December 2009. Demographic and sexual behavior data were collected using the snowball sampling technology, and blood samples were obtained. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to determine the predictors of HIV and syphilis infection. The seroprevalence of HIV, syphilis, HCV, and co-infection of HIV with syphilis was 6.0%, 18.0%, 1.3%, and 2.5%, respectively. Use of condoms was more inconsistent in vaginal sex than that in anal sex, buying sex or selling sex. Multivariate analysis showed that MSM with syphilis infection, MSM from other provinces, and MSM of Han ethnicity were more likely to have HIV infection. Further, MSMwith HIV infection, inconsistent condom use, and less knowledge about AIDS prevention were more likely to have syphilis infection. Their social background, habit of condom use, and infection status may affect the prevalence of HIV or syphilis. These findings may have important implications for further behavioral interventions among this population. © 2015, National Institute of Health. All rights reserved.

Vascular endothelium play an essential role in regulating endothelial functions by maintaining normal vascular tone, modulating hemostasis, and preventing thromobogenesis. The aim of present study was to reveal ultrastructure features of coronary artery endothelium in Bactrian Camels by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) technology. The results showed that the endothelial cells distribute along the direction of blood flow. Their morphology and protuberant degree towards luminal surface vary for different parts of the coronary artery. The luminal surface of a.c oronaria sinistra and a. coronaria dextra was covered by impaired and intact endothelium, respectively. Platelets and leukocytes sticking to the endothelium were found. © 2016, Universidad de la Frontera. All Rights Reserved.
