Root growth and mineral nutrient uptake are two closely related physiological processes regulated by shoot growth and development. To date, little attention has been paid to the effects of leaves and ears on root growth and mineral nutrient uptake. To unravel this physiological puzzle, we treated inbred and hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) plants by shading middle leaves or covering ears from silking onward in two growing seasons under fi eld conditions. We found that shading middle leaves reduced photosynthetic capacity and assimilate allocation to roots and, thus, decreased root growth. However, there was relatively less reduction in total N content of whole plants than that of the root dry wt. of all genotypes, implying that roots of these plants had a higher N uptake rate per unit root dry wt. than the control. In contrast, covering ears suppressed grain development, allowing more assimilate relocation into roots to promote root growth. On the other hand, removal of substantial sink demand (grain fi lling) directly caused decrease in total N uptake, and the decrease in N content in the shoot was signifi cant in four out of seven genotypes, although the cob and husks could partially substitute for developing grains as a nutrient sink to infl uence nutrient (N) uptake by roots. Our results suggested that root growth and nutrient uptake (N in this study) were nonsynchronous due to differential regulation primarily by assimilate allocation and shoot demand, respectively. © Crop Science Society of America.

The problem of robust D admissibility analysis and admissibilization is studied for uncertain descriptor linear systems. Two classes of uncertainties are considered in this paper, i.e., the norm bounded uncertainty and the polytopic uncertainty. With the introduction of some free matrices, a new necessary and sufficient condition for the considered descriptor linear system to be D admissible is presented, based on which, sufficient conditions for uncertain descriptor linear systems to be robustly D admissible are proposed. The state feedback control problems are also addressed and explicit expressions of the desired state feedback controller are given in terms of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are easily checked. Numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the obtained approach. © 2012 ICIC International.

Two chemosensors for cyanide anions based on N-methylpyridinium cation and the boronic acid moiety structures have been synthesized. Spectral shifts and intensity changes in acetonitrile allow for both absorption and fluorescence emission wavelength ratiometric and colorimetric sensing. The compounds are found to be able to recognize cyanide anion with obvious color change and fluorescence turn-on response due to the sensors' ability to bind the cyanide anion through boronic acid functional group. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

This paper, the factors to consider the dynamic and static local routing strategy of scale-free networks. Don't have access to global information for large network, put forward a kind of combined with the current static topology information of network and node of the traffic flow situation of considering the dynamic factors of routing strategy of local information. Based on scale-free networks in the simulation model, analyses the network congestion in the shift. Through simulation experiments and research, found that there are optimal control parameters, makes the network throughput can reach maximum. © 2014 SERSC.

In order to design the real-time monitor system with good performance, the application of GPRS network on it was studied in depth. Firstly, the importance of designing a real-time monitor system was introduced, and the basic theory of GPRS network was explained; and then the theory principle of real-time monitor system of water pollution resource was analyzed. And then methodology of GPRS network was studied. Finally the hardware device, software and theirs corresponding function were designed. And the application of this monitor system of water pollution resource was good when it was applied in actual engineering. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
