In this work, well-defined Ni-based alloys, labeled M1 (Ni 0.8CoO0.1Zn0.05MnO0.02Ti 0.01Y0.01Al0.01) and M2 (NiO 0.8CoO0.1Zn0.05MnO0.02Ti 0.01Y0.01Al0.01), were prepared by ball-milling technique and used as electrodes for the generation of hydrogen. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were employed in order to understand the surface state and proton adsorption phenomena during cathodic polarization. It was found that high concentration species such as NiO and/or Ni(OH)2 induces passivation effect, suppressing the HER by increasing the electrode resistance. The charge transfer, double layer capacitance and adsorption of protons toward the electrode interface ware found to be highly controlled by the intrinsic nature of the alloy in turn. © J. New Mat. One Century of the Discovery of Arsenicosis in Latin America (1914-2014): As 2014 - Proceedings of the 5th International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment

In rural areas of the Chaco province, the provision of drinking water is difficult, so groundwater is used from water table aquifers. The quality of these waters varies considerably in terms of elements, having high salt concentrations and, in other cases, the presence of trace elements such as arsenic. An economical alternative, valid and easy to apply is the removal of arsenic using compressed laterite. The land laterites, with a high content of iron from Posadas, Misiones, Argentina, in the form of tablets, were used, showing excellent results. The amount of arsenic that can be removed with this method can be up to 90%. © 2014 Taylor & Francis Group. Source
