Abstract ZnS thin films were deposited onto ITO-(glass) substrate by the electrodeposition process using an acidic solution, containing Zinc (II) acetate (Zn(CH3COOH)2) and sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3) as precursors. The depositions were carried out at the solution temperature of 80°C under an applied potential of -1300 mV vs Ag/AgCl. The value of the concentration ratio in the plating solution of sulfur and zinc was varied between 0.1 and 1. The structural and morphological studies (XRD and AFM) show that the films obtained using Zn/S= 0.2 consist essentially of ZnS cubic phase and they exhibit the best crystallinity with a (200) preferential orientation. Moreover, the optical analysis via the transmittance and reflectance reveal that the band-gap energy Eg decreases slightly as a function of Zn/S composition (Eg varies from 3.75 eV to 3.56 eV). On the other hand, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was employed for analyzing the capacitive nature of ZnS/Na2SO4 interface. From Mott-Schottky plot, the films obtained from the starting molar ratio of Zn/S= 0.2 exhibit n-type character with a flat band potential and a density of majority carrier of the order -0.46 V and 3.2×1016 cm-3, respectively. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

The synthesis of a series of αβ-unsaturated disulfoxides having two highly fluorinated chains separated by a polyoxyethylene (POE) group is described. The reaction was carried out in basic medium, and the most relevant feature of this conversion is the enhanced acidity of SO-α- hydrogens of starting materials, leading to the observed regioselectivity.

The synthesis of double tail surfactants having crown ethers as polar heads was performed by reacting di-F-alkyl mercaptosuccinate on cyclic polyethylene glycol maleates. Surface tension and critical micelle concentration (CMC) were determined for these new surfactants. According to CMC values, the solubility in water is higher with perfluoroalkyl surfactants having a bigger loop size and shorter hydrophobic chains. © 2012 AOCS.

New tetrazines substituted with perfluorinated alkyl chains have been synthesized and their electrochemical and photophysical properties investigated under various conditions. Their fluorescence quantum yields in dichloromethane appear to be interestingly slightly higher than with classical tetrazines, placing these new derivatives among the most fluorescent tetrazines characterized to date. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. A series of nonionic bolaamphiphiles were synthesized from the reaction of fluoroalkylene (dimercaptoacetates) with maleate crown ethers. Surface activity of the new surfactants was evaluated on the basis of surface tension measurements. The new fluorinated bolamphiphiles exhibit a remarkable lowering of surface tension in comparison with nonfluorinated analogues. © 2014 AOCS.
