Recently, more and more attention has been paid to the decarburization by the mixed amine solutions because of this method's big adsorptive capacity, high reaction rate, wide application scope, low energy consumption for regeneration, and so on. In view of this, an experimental investigation was made into the CO2 adsorption and desorption performances of the blended amine solutions (MDEA + DEA) at different concentration ratios in a high-pressure reactor with magnetic coupling stirring. The following findings were achieved. First, only if the concentration ratio between MDEA and MEA is 2.0/1.0, the CO2 adsorption and desorption performance of the blended amine solutions will be significantly improved. Second, when the ratio between MDEA and DEA is 2.0/1.0, the CO2 reaction will soon reach the equilibrium but the CO2 adsorption rate will be rather low especially under a high content of sour gas; when such a ratio is up to 2.6/0.4, the CO2 adsorption performance will not be obviously improved compared with the single amine solution of MDEA; and when such a ratio reaches 2.3/0.7, the CO2 adsorption and rate will be both kept at a high level. Third, when the ratio between MDEA and DEA is 2.0/1.0, the blended amine solution will have a moderate CO2 desorption capacity but not as good as the blended MDEA and MEA solution at the same ratio. This study provides basic data for the optimal formula of decarburization and the design of a decarburization industrial plant.

Mixed amine solvents have gained increasing attention in recent years. The absorption and desorption performance of mixed amine solvents for CO2 were analyzed by experiments. The absorption rate, absorption load, and desorption rate were used as the evaluating index. The experiment results show that the smaller proportion of MDEA/DETA solvents is the higher absorption load and absorption rate are, but the final desorption degree does not rise. When the rate of TETA is high, it is helpful to improve absorption rate and reduce desorption time of MDEA + TETA, but it is not necessary to add excessive TETA into mixed amine solvents. © 2014 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Deep excavation has an important impact on the deformation and safety of its adjacent buildings. However, very limited case histories on damage of adjacent buildings caused by a safely constructed deep excavation are available. Field monitoring is carried out during the construction of a 12 m-deep excavation for the foundation of a luxury complex building. The settlement deformations of 11 adjacent buildings caused by the deep excavation are analyzed. Also investigated are the settlement-related ground conditions, construction process of the deep excavation, lateral displacements of retaining structures, and foundation types of the adjacent buildings. It is shown that the ground conditions, namely a thick mucky silty clay containing silty sand, and dewatering are the underlying causes leading to damage of 6 buildings with settlements over 100 mm. An effective water-resisting curtain and dewatering measures are the key to control the influence of deep excavation on the adjacent buildings.

Mixed amine solvents have become research trend as their great performance of decarbonization in recent years. The kinetics model was established and fitted to the experimental data. Then the reaction kinetics of mixed solvents of MDEA and enamine in CO2 absorption process were analyzed through model. The results showed that the optimum concentration of absorbent and operating temperature exists in single MDEA system. As for mixed amine systems, the CO2 absorption capacity was stronger as the DETA or TETA dosages were greater. The model prediction accuracy for single MDEA solvent was better while the model prediction accuracy for 2.0 MDEA/1.0 DETA was decreased. When absorption rate was slower, the reaction was more close to the pseudo first order, and then the prediction accuracy of the model was higher. The research in this paper can promote the industrial applications of mixed amine solvents. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

To determine cable's sectional area is one of key problems of mega steel frame and pre-stressed composite brace structure. Based on cables' function, the determination rules for cable's sectional area were presented. The inner force increasing in composite brace under horizontal load is in balance state and the lateral deformation meets code requirement. According to the rules above and the superposition principle of structural deformation, the balanced equation of inner force increased with composite brace under horizontal load, and the relationship between structural peak inter-story drift and cross section area of cable were established, respectively. Based on the principle about the structural peak inter-story drift design target value, the qualitative estimation theory on cross section area of cable is finally proposed, which is useful for primary design and performance judgement for this structure.

The mega steel frame and cable bracing structure belongs to the pre-stressed high-rising building and how to estimate cross-sectional area of cables is one of key problems for this new structural system. Considering shear and bending deformation, the relationship between structural story drift and cross-sectional area of cables is established by using the superposition principle of deformation. Further, cross-sectional area of cables is determined based on the design target value of story drift that is known. The qualitative estimation method on cross-sectional area of cables is finally developed. The cross-sectional area obtained by using this method is its lower critical value, and the method presented is useful for the preliminary design and qualitative evaluation. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
