Growth in manufacturing sectors, such as glove dipping, paints and coatings, and adhesives and sealants, generates favorable market conditions for suppliers, with Malaysia and Vietnam to exhibit the highest demand growth. The competitive landscape in the region is fragmented with the top 10 suppliers accounting for almost 60% of the total market share. The supplier base comprises three tiers of companies, including global multinational corporations, such as Synthomer, Dow Chemical, and BASF, domestic companies with regional focus, such as Eternal Buana Chemical Industries, Dovechem, Thai Mitsui Specialty Chemicals, and Bangkok Synthetics, and domestic companies with a country-specific focus, including ChuanPlus Industries, Inawan Chemtex, and Siam Chemical. Synthomer is the leading supplier in Southeast Asia due to its strong presence in AB-nitrile latex, followed by Kumho Petrochemical and BASF in volume terms. According to a five-year forecast, the strong GDP growth in Southeast Asia supported by the rise in manufacturing industries will be the major market driver. Glove dipping is expected to be the fastest growing end-use application driven by the growing global as well as domestic demand for synthetic latex gloves, especially in the medical segment. As a result, the major latex polymer used in this application, AB-nitrile, will be the fastest growing product in the region. In contrast, the paper industry will pose a slight decline mainly due to increasing cheaper imports of paper from China. This will negatively impact growth of X-SB polymer, which is expected to be one among the slowest growing latex polymers in the region. A method for preparing a phenolic oligomer antioxidant with a very small residual content of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) is provided. Specifically, the method for preparing the phenolic oligomer antioxidant relates to a method which is capable of a BHT-free phenolic oligomer antioxidant or a phenolic oligomer antioxidant containing a trace amount of residual BHT by removing the precursor of BHT as much as possible by performing the concentration under the reduced pressure while injecting an inert gas to an intermediate product and/or removing BHT by performing the concentration under the reduced pressure while injecting an inert gas to the final product.

A lesser degree of information is available with respect to microenvironments associated with potential exposure to naphthalene, in comparison with other volatile organic compounds. The current study investigated the levels of benzene as well as naphthalene, both in the indoor and outdoor air of apartments and in the cabins of passenger cars. Two groups of 20 apartment buildings (20 new and 20 old) were chosen on the basis of the selection criteria (apartment location and size). In addition, 10 actual commuters were recruited for this study. The equal number of drivers was recruited for the study for comparison of two types of fuels for vehicles (five drivers of gasoline-fuelled and five drivers of diesel-fuelled passenger cars). Indoor naphthalene concentrations were similar between old and new apartments, while the benzene concentrations in new apartments were significantly higher than those of old apartments. The naphthalene concentrations in bedrooms, where wardrobes with moth repellent (MRs) were placed, were significantly higher than those for living rooms where no MRs were present. In turn, these indoor concentrations were significantly higher than outdoor levels. It is noteworthy that the mean and median values of naphthalene measured in the bedrooms exceeded the USEPA RfC (inhalation reference concentration) of 3 μgm -3, and the living room values were close to the RfC, while the residential benzene levels exceeded the European benzene limit of 5 μgm -3. In contrast, the maximum outdoor levels were well below that of the RfC. The use of passenger cars appeared to be a significant daily activity for both naphthalene and benzene exposure. The naphthalene-to-benzene ratios varied with the type of microenvironments. Both the indoor naphthalene and benzene concentrations in the present study were much higher than those of other studies. © 2011 Taylor & Francis.

A photoacid generator (PAG) is a component of chemical amplification photoresists (CAR). The most widely used PAG in CAR system is triphenyl onium salt which is well known to one of the best leaving groups from various radiation. Acid diffusion influences resist characteristics in area such as resolution and linewidth control. The structure of the hydrophilic PAG was designed to restrict acid diffusion within the photoresist. Acid amplification was suppressed by the hydroxyl group-acid interaction. Novel PAGs with functional groups were synthesized and characterized. Poly(GMA-co-MMA) was synthesized with a combination of crosslinkable glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and highly refractive methyl methacrylate (MMA). The synthesized polymers were confirmed by NMR and FT-IR, and their thermal properties were studied using TGA and DSC. The resists were evaluated as a positive type resist for ArF lithography. PAGs exhibited good acid generation efficiency with controlled acid diffusion. We found that the energy latitude property of the photoresist was improved with hydroxyl-PAG. Binary, ternary, and quaternary cobalt catalysts for 1,4-transpolybutadiene were prepared, and their reactivity and microstructure were studied. A novel binary catalytic system composed of cobalt adduct (2-PhC6H4O)3Al·Co(OAc)2/AlR3, a ternary system of Co(2-ethylhexanoate)2/AlEt(OPh)2/AlEt3, where OPh is p-dodecyl phenolate, and a quaternary system of cobalt carboxylate·(dialkyl phosphite)/AlR3/(HOPh, p-dodecyl phenol), for high 1,4-transpolybutadiene were compared in polymerization. The binary molecular catalyst, (2-PhC6H4O)3Al·Co(OAc)2/AlR3, was designed as cobalt and aluminum bimetallic form of an intermediate structure in the active site of 1,3-butadiene polymerization for high trans configuration. The bulky ligand, 2-PhC6H4O-, promotes the syn conformation in the active site in favor of trans configuration in polybutadiene. The catalytic activity was reached to 215 kg/(Co mol h) in the quaternary catalytic system. The microstructure consisted of ca. 91% trans, 2% cis and 7% vinyl. Molecular weight was able to be controlled to ca. 700,000 with MWD ca. 2.0. Catalytic reactivity in 1,3-butadiene polymerization was in the order of quaternary > binary > ternary. Diethyl phosphite and triethyl phosphate remarkably reduce molecular weight with high reactivity. The transpolybutadiene prepared by the quaternary catalyst had the glass transition temperature of ca. -80 °C, the melting point of ca. 30 °C, and possessed a low level of crystallinity at room temperature. In the carbon black composite, transpolybutadiene showed superior abrasion resistance, tear strength and chipping resistance to natural rubber, but exhibited high compound Mooney viscosity and low moduli. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
