Analysis of the construction and operation of coke quenching chambers facilitates the identification of their deficiencies. The elimination of these deficiencies permits increase in operational efficiency of existing dry-quenching systems and the development of new high-performance systems. A method is proposed for the determination and automatic monitoring of the circulating-gas consumption. Existing and prospective dry-quenching systems are analyzed on the basis of the circulating-gas consumption. Means of optimizing the coke discharge unit and improving the efficiency of dry quenching are considered. The development of a continuous coke-discharge unit with an aerodynamic gate is discussed. Portion-by-portion discharge in a gate system is compared with continuous coke discharge. Various options for continuous coke discharge are analyzed. Tests of a CDQ unit with continuous coke discharge at Alchevsk coke plant show that the improvement of continuous coke discharge is an effective means of boosting the performance of the CDQ unit. The mean dust content of the gases in the main CDQ loop is 30% less with continuous coke discharge. © 2014 Allerton Press, Inc. Source
