The industrial application of Zn-Ni alloys in steel objects - in which tribocorrosion must be taken into account - has significant importance, especially in the automotive industry, aircraft industry and electronics. The tribocorrosion failure of Ni-Zn alloy coated steel parts can cause major economical damages and serious operational problems in some structures. The effect of intermediate layer between the steel and the top Zn-Ni coating on the tribocorrosion behavior was examined in 1% NaCl solution with "cylinder-on-plate" tribometer technique, while the measurements of electrochemical and frictional forces were performed in real-time. The composition of the intermediate layer affects the tribocorrosion resistance, proving the negative potential shift in open circuit.

In our earlier publication, electrodeposition of a particular three-component zinc-cobalt-chromium alloy had been related in the presence of nanoscale SiO2. This kind of alloy represents new generation of electrodeposited alloys. There are no detailed descriptions about this alloy yet in the scientific bibliography. Since we had been taken part in the development, detailed examination of features of electrolyte and morphologic and structure composition of deposited ZnCoCr-SiO2 composite layer was aimed at. Also corrosion protection abilities were tested.
