Calculation of casting modulus is very important for the control of sequence solidification of the casting. In order to solve the dispersed shrinkage of power lining casting, the moduli calculation method was used to design the risers and chills of the ductile iron casting, and the dispersed shrinkage was successfully solved by the method. The results show that the rejection rate of the similar products decreases from 20% to 2% after improvement.

Repair welding process of the steel casting consists of preheating, cooling after welding, and ultrasonic testing, etc. When the defects were found after ultrasonic testing, the process of preheating and cooling needed repeating, which resulted in the longer period of welding. To decrease the period of welding of steel casting, the acoustic characteristics of the ultrasonic testing were studied and analyzed at high temperature. The testing temperature, testing sensitivity, and defects location difference between high and low temperature were determined and validated, which were adapted to the high temperature testing of ultrasonic for steel castings.

Effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of G17CrMo5-5 steel was studied by use of optical microscopy and mechanical test methods. The effects of different normalizing temperatures and tempering temperature on mechanical properties of GX8CrNi12 steel nuclear steamseal body were studied. The results showthat with the increasing of normalizing temperature, the strength and hardness increased, ductility and toughness decreased; with the increasing of the tempering temperature, the strength, hardness and impact toughness decreased, while the elongation and reduction of area both the plasticity index increased first and then decreased. Different process parameters corresponding to the value of themechanical properties were obtained. The experiences and data for the further production of steel castings and use ofmaterialswere accumulated.

The mechanism of sulfur of different sulfuric acid curing agent in the casting process was researched. To improve the performance of curing agent and the casting's surface quality, the origin of the sulfur in the furan resin sand was measured. By using of the resin sans with different type of curing agents (addition content in 30%-50%) and the different contents of free sulfuric acid, the ductile iron castings were produced. The result show that when the content of free sulfuric acid in curing agent is less than 10%, the spherical graphite degeneration is little and the surface quality of casting is better.
