Flower-like MoS2 microspheres assembled by nanosheets have been successfully synthesized by a facile, environmentally friendly reaction in closed reactor at moderate temperature. The obtained products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The W-doped MoS2 nanoplates have been successfully prepared via solid-state thermal (850°C) reaction between micro-sized MoO3, WO3 and thiocarbamide powders under inert atmosphere in a closed reactor and characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the morphologies of the as-prepared products changed with the doping of WO3 powders. And the sizes of crystallites evidently changed while the contents of dopant increased within a certain limit (3at.%–7at.%). The tribological properties of the as-prepared products as additives in paraffin base oil were investigated by UMT-2 multispecimen tribo-tester. The topography of worn scars was obtained using a common SEM.The friction coefficient of the base oil containing W-doped MoS2 nanoplates was lower and more stable than that of MoS2 nanosheets. © 2015, National Institute R and D of Materials Physics. In this paper, NbS2-xSex nanoparticles were synthesized by solid state reaction. The effect of Se doped amount, reaction temperature and reaction time on evolution rules of crystal form and morphology of the production of NbS2-xSex nanomaterials were discussed, phase and microstructure of as-synthesized samples were examined by means of XRD, SEM, TEM and HRTEM. The results show that the morphology of NbS2-xSex nanobelt (nanoclintheriform) turned into nanoflake after Se was doped, meanwhile diffraction peaks were broadened, peak intensity become weaker, grains were refined. What's more, the doping amount, reaction temperature and reaction time play a greater impact on the morphology of the production. The morphology of NbS1.9Se0.1 which was doped by 5at% Se at for 750 °C 2h was fine. The results of UMT-2 tribology experiment show that the doped NbS2-xSex has excellent friction performance when NbS2-xSex was used as additive in liquid paraffin oil. Furthermore the NbS1.9Se0.1 that doped 5at% Se, at 750 °C for 2 h, has the best friction performance and the friction mechanism was also explained at the same time. Source

The NbS2 and Se-doped NbS2 nano-grains were prepared by solid phase synthesis. The impacts of the synthesis conditions on the nano-grains were evaluated. The microstructures of the NbS2 and Se-doped NbS2 nano-grains were characterized with X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the Se-doping strongly affects the morphologies of the nano-grains and its tribological property. For instance, the Se-doping turned a mixture of NbS2 nano-wire and nano-ribbon into the smooth, uniformly distributed hexagonal nano-flakes on top of a layer of smaller nano-particles. When used as the lubricant additives in the test, the Se-doped NbS2 was found to significantly outperform the pure NbS2 nano-grains. Source
