Accidents of water inrush in karst tunnel1-3 are closely related to the fault according to the survey. Mechanism of water inrush which induced by the fault is explained by the principle of key stratum. First of all, fault can be divided into the extensional fault and the compressive fault according to the mechanical mechanism of the formation of fault. Discussing structural mechanics model of two types of faults and water inrush in karst tunnel, and then draw the conclusion of the corresponding formula of the key strata's thickness. Secondly, finding the discrepancy of the key stratum' thickness by compared with different mechanical models. Especially get the linear relationship between water pressure and the key stratum' thickness in different mechanical model. Then identify the most suitable mechanical model to the different types of faults. At last, verify the results by the practical engineering parameters. © 2014 ejge.

GeoStudio has seepage analysis module Seep / W and stress-strain analysis module Sigma/W. Based on the fluid-solid coupling of GeoStudio, the fluid-solid coupling model of single perforation was established. The results show that pore water pressure was equal in the perforation,but the value increases rapidly between the ends of perforation to 1.1m. The slope of fitting line is 0.62. The pressure between 1.1m to 4m increases slower and the second slope of fitting line is 0.36. The ends of perforation are easy to appear to the concentration of stress. So it would cause collapse while in the process of production. The value of C, φ can be calculated by σx, σy, τxy in the top and bottom perforation. So the soil is determined in a plastic state and it is silt. Assumption can be verified by the calculation results. All the results help to the optimization in oil exploitation.
