The stress field of the crack tip is described for the blunt crack under compression based on the previous research, and in the stress field expression the geometrical characteristic of the blunt crack tip is considered. On this basis, the maximum tensile-stress criterion is used to analyze the fracture process zone of the blunt crack under compression. And the results show the size of the fracture process zone is not only closely related to the fracture toughness and the tensile strength of the rock-type material, but also related to the geometrical characteristic of the blunt crack tip. Meanwhile the analytical solution of the size of the fracture process zone is determined, which can be applied to the nonsingular fracture analysis of the blunt crack under compression. © 2014 CAFET-INNOVA TECHNICAL SOCIETY.
