Controlling of polymorphs and morphologies of calcium carbonate materials is important for their further industrial application. In this work, spherical litchi-like morphology of pure vaterite microspheres were obtained from water/ethylene glycol (EG) binary solvents with ultrasonic irradiation technique. The samples were characterized by a series of methods including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The results demonstrated that the phases and the morphologies of calcium carbonate materials are closed related with the volume ratios of EG as well as the ultrasonic irradiation time. Source
