To meet the diversified demands for QoS of new network applications, a refined QoS assessment based on application differentiation (RQoSAAD) was proposed. The QoS achievement ratio and the degree of traffic satisfaction of different applications and internetworking in a measurement period was computed respectively by analyzing the performance metrics, and the QoS achievement ratio, the degree of satisfaction of different applications, the internetworking and users' holistic traffic and the QoS level in a large time scale were further deduced using Simpson's rule so as to thoroughly distinguish the QoS of different users. RQoSAAD was implemented in NBOS, a prototype system of a late-model network management system in CERNET. The detailed QoS report provided by RQoSAAD in NBOS enables users and operators to understand network QoS from different aspects and facilitates the processes of network status evaluation, configuration update, feedback control and adjustment.

An algorithm based on double counter bloom filter for long flows identification (CCBF) is proposed in this paper. Double counter bloom filter structure is used to distinguish the process of the long flow filtration from the long flow existence. The false positive rate of the algorithm is analyzed. The relationship of the memory requirement and the error rate is analyzed through simulation. It is shown that with the same restriction of the memory resource, the average error of this algorithm is less than the existing similar algorithms. The analysis of the time performance shows this algorithm is capable of dealing with traffic up to 1 500kpps.The results reflect that this algorithm can be used to monitor the long flows on backbone network. © by Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Based on the Chi-Square Statistics and Test, this paper proposes a method named ABSA (application behavior significance assessment) to analyze the traffic behavior characteristics of applications. The ABSA method does not focus on any certain applications; in contrast, it aims at providing a quantitative standard for describing the behavior distribution differences among applications, so that the traffic behavior characteristics and their corresponding significances can be determined. The theoretical analysis and experiments results show that 1) ABSA can present the information about characteristics more precisely and copiously to improve the accuracy of application identification; 2) the significance of characteristic is independent of its proportion in sample totals; 3) ABSA can keep the relative significance sequence of behavior characteristics unchanged in a packet sampling environment, which is often used by NetFlow and many other flow information collecting systems to simplify the characteristic re-selecting process when sampling ratio is changed. © by Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
