4-aryl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones were synthesized by using Biginelli reaction in iconic liguids. The simple method provoids the title compounds in 67∼97% yields by the reaction of aromaic aldehydes with aectoacetrate and urea in the presence of iconic liquids as solvent and katalyst. This method was found to be efficient way for the synthesis of 4-aryl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H) -ones. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Source

Novel esteryl-functionalized ionic liquids from isonicotinic acid as raw materials have been designed, synthesized, and characterized for the first time. Ionic liquids (ILs) have received a great deal of attention[1-4] because of many remarkable advantages such as low vapor pressure, high thermal stability, wide liquid range, and good solvating ability for a wide range of substrates and catalysts. Since they have possessed the interesting physical and chemical properties which can be adjusted by the alteration of cations or anions, they could serve as a "green recyclable" and "designable" alternative to the volatile organic solvent that was traditionally used in industry and laboratory. Therefore, different sorts of characteristic groups can be introduced into cation or anion for the formation of task-specific ILs according to the actual demands. Recently, the task-specific ILs with -Si(EtO)3 [5], -COOH[6], -OH[6], -COOR[7], -NH2 [7], -CN[8] etc. have been synthesized and reported. It was suggested that the chances for preparing a broad array of ionic liquids with ions incorporating functional groups are rather good. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Source
