A copper molten mark formed after melting 2.5 mm2 single-strands Cu wire by arc under the single-phase grounding fault condition was analyzed using optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results showed that clear dividing line between the molten mark and the substrate was found, the microstructure in the molten mark area was coarse columnar crystal, and the direction of the long side of the columnar crystal was parallel to the copper wire. Imaging quality of AFM is higher than that of OM, so its resolving power is stronger for details, and 3D images can be generated by AFM. AFM analysis is expected to provide auxiliary identification method for the fire evidence identification. ©, 2014, Northeastern University. All right reserved.
