The paper deals with problems of delays, queues, interferences and interrupts in open radio transmission standards (GPS, GSM-R) applied in railway control and management systems including Advanced Train Control/Protection\. These systems apply the wireless networks transmitting the signal between different dissipated objects and safety transmission standards require such time related analysis based on mathematical methods (Markov processes). © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

The paper treats about efficiency analysis in Changeable Block Distance (CBD) System connected with wireless positioning and control of train. The analysis is based on modeling of typical ERTMS line and comparison with actual and future traffic. The calculations are related to assumed parameters of railway traffic corresponding to real time - table of distance Psary - Góra Włodowska from CMK line equipped in classic, ETCS Level 1 and ETCS with CBD systems. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

In this study we have examined the distribution of the chemical forms of Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn in the coal and coal + biomass fly ash (FA) collected in a three stage electrostatic precipitator (ESP) of a pulverized fuel fired boiler system. The concentrations of environmentally available volatile metals (Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn) increased towards finer grained ESP fractions, whereas the concentrations of hardly volatile metals (Fe and Mn) underwent a slight reduction. The concentration of Cd in all ESP fractions of FA was very low (< 1.5 mg/kg). We have proposed a new approach to determining the occurrence mode of trace metals in FAs by the modified Tessier scheme. A relatively uniform pattern of chemical fractionation was obtained for metals having various properties. The effect of co-combustion of biomass was observed for Cu and Mn distribution. Cu present in coal + biomass FA exhibits a clearly higher mobility than Cu in coal FA. The behavior of Mn is just the opposite and a difference in mobility is smaller. The characteristic feature of metal occurrence in the fly ash is a large share of the environmentally persistent fraction (40-90%) and a very low proportion of the water leaching fraction (< LOD). This has a large environmental significance, as it can be predicted that the pulverized coal combustion (PCC) FAs, even if found in extremely unfavorable environmental conditions, will not become an effective source of heavy metals. The sequential extraction results made it possible to propose an outline of the mechanism of formation of individual chemical fractions of the investigated metals. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. The paper is inspired by developments of fractional calculus in areas of control theory and electrical measurements. It outlines an example of modelling the measuring transducers with the use of this calculus. The algorithm determining these models is presented in the form of a fractional calculus notation and then the models are compared to the ones described by means of classical differential equations. Tests are executed in the Matlab/Simulink programme.

In light of the Energy Efficiency Act of 2011, increasing attention has been paid to reducing energy consumption of industrial processes. Maximising efficiency of industrial drives is one of the methods of improving energy efficiency. Information about in-service motor efficiency becomes essential. There is a lot of methods for determining efficiency of squirrel-cage induction motors, including those based on estimating air-gap torque (AGT). This paper attempts to verify non-Intrusive air-gap torque (NAGT) method as presented in international publications. It is demonstrated that the dependencies included in the method can be formulated so as to facilitate application and simplify calculation of the rotational magnetic field power. Certain inaccuracies of the method, relating to omission of selected power losses in the motor, are indicated.

The paper contains the safety analysis of the new generation of railway control systems designed with respect to new technologies: microcomputers connected via cable and wireless transmission networks. In the paper the THR and global safety criteria are introduced to designed, tested and exploited railway control systems. For one of the systems the verification of safety parameters was possible in the form of both forecasting estimation and exploitation result. The authors presented in the paper one of the methods of forecasting estimation of control and management railway systems. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

The paper contains an analysis of the safety level crossing equipped with an additional warning system for drivers that are within the level crossing before the approaching train. The proposed system is based on wireless data standard, WiMax and sensor networks WSN, placed an additional warning helps to improve safety at unguarded railway crossings. Mathematical analysis was carried out for unguarded level crossing model, and then for system with signaling the level crossing ssp and for system equipped with additional warning system for drivers. For the analysis presented models used stochastic Markov processes which allowed estimating the indicators of probabilistic studied systems. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

The article is inspired by developments of the fractional calculus in different areas of science such as the control theory and electrical measurements. The current interest in mathematical analysis employing the fractional differential and integral calculus reflects the usefulness of this calculus in the development of more precise - closer to the actual observation - mathematical models of various phenomena. A model of a measuring transducer is presented, developed by means of fractional calculus. Tests are executed in the programming environment MATLAB-SIMULINK. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

An idea of induction heating that may be useful in development of an effective method of heating railway turnouts in Poland is presented. Results of testing of a turnout induction heating method undertaken in 1978 - 1979 by the Polish National Railways operator (PKP) are discussed and provide the starting point for renewed research. A numerical rail model is introduced that is necessary to determine the distribution of magnetic induction and magnetic intensity across the rail itself and in its environment. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.
