An implementation of Artificial-Neural-Network (ANN) based speech recognition systems on the embedded platform is explored in this paper. An FPGA chip is adopted as the hardware of the embedded platform with the architecture of SOC. This makes the speech recognition systems applicable on the voice activated systems in toys, games, smart phones, office devices, vehicular communications, etc. Because the fast Fourier transform (FFT) is an important operation in speech recognition, in which a great number of floating-point arithmetic operations are performed, it takes a long time for speech recognition due to the limitation on the computation capability of the embedded platform. In this paper, we use Integer FFT to replace the Floating FFT so that the speed of speech recognition is enhanced without in influencing the recognition rate. The experimental results from the FPGA platform reveal that the speech recognition rate of the proposed hardware implementation methods is better than that in existing literatures. © 2011 ICIC INTERNATIONAL. Corrosion attacks steel buildings mainly when the connections wait for welding on site. In the companion paper, the effects were investigated by a series of weld tests. The results show that the surface rust may increase the level of porosity in steel welds, reducing the strength by 5% on average. This paper made a case study, further investigating the effects together with those of workmanship. The seismic risk of the example building has been assessed and compared in detail for acceptable and marginal quality workmanship. The results obtained from the above studies will help develop more sound strategies in construction management and building renovation. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Source

Corrosion attacks steel buildings mainly when the connections wait for welding on site. To investigate the effects, a series of experimental and analytical studies have been carried out. This paper summarizes the main results of the experimental studies. The steel welds with and without rust on the welding surfaces were tested and compared in details. The strength of the weld was found to decrease 5% on average. That's because the rust raised the level of weld porosity. The results obtained above will be considered together with the effect of workmanship in the companion paper, as to assess the seismic reliability for existing buildings with steel moment frames. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. The bottom contact pentacene-based thin-film transistor is fabricated, and it is treated by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) with the annealed temperature up to 240 °C for 2 min in the vacuum of 1.3 × 10-2 torr. The morphology and structure for the pentacene films of OTFTs were examined by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction technique. The thin-film phase and a very small fraction of single-crystal phase were found in the as-deposited pentacene films. While the annealing temperature increases to 60 °C, the pentacene molecular ordering was significantly improved though the grain size only slightly increased. The device annealed at temperature of 120 °C has optimal electrical properties, being consistent with the experimental results of XRD. The post-annealing treatment results in the enhancement of field-effect mobility in pentacene-based thin-film transistors. The field-effect mobility increases from 0.243 cm2/V s to 0.62 cm2/V s. Besides, the threshold voltage of device shifts from -7 V to -3.88 V and the on/off current ratio increases from 4.0 × 103 to 8.7 × 103. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Source

A series of zirconium and hafnium alkoxide and amide complexes containing symmetrical tridentate pyrrolyl ligand, [C4H2NH(2,5- CH2NMe2)2] have been synthesized conveniently by treatment of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol, tert-butanol or pyrrole in pentane and their reactivity over ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone have been carried out. Reactions of [C4H2NH(2,5-CH 2NMe2)2] with M(NEt2)4 (M = Zr or Hf) originate [C4H2N(2,5-CH2NMe 2)2]M(NEt2)3 (1, M = Zr; 2, M = Hf). Furthermore, reactions of [C4H2N(2,5-CH 2NMe2)2]M(NEt2)3 with 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol, tert-butanol or pyrrole afford [C4H 2N(2,5-CH2NMe2)2]M(OC 6H3-2,6-tBu2)(NEt2) 2 (3, M = Zr; 4, M = Hf), [C4H2N(2,5-CH 2NMe2)2]M(OtBu)3 (5, M = Zr; 6, M = Hf) and [C4H2N(2,5-CH2NMe 2)2]M(C4H4N)3 (7, M = Zr; 8, M = Hf), respectively, in satisfactory yield. All the complexes have been characterized by NMR spectra as well 3, 4 and 6 subjected to the X-ray diffraction analysis. Complexes 3-8 have been used as initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone and observed broad PDI values (1.84-2.75) representing multiple reactivity centers of these complexes. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
