A differential scanning calorimetric method for measuring the purity of thermally stable monomers used to manufacture aramid threads with a distinctly defined melting point is described. The thermal regimes for analyzing various organic substances are developed. A method for calculating the absolute amount of impurities using thermograms is proposed. It is based on plots of the fraction of melted sample as a function of melting point. A stepwise procedure for measuring the purity for practical utilization is developed. The causes of N,N-dimethylacetamide degradation were studied. The influence of various destructive factors (temperature, light, contents of water and other impurities) on the formation and accumulation of side products in regenerated dimethylacetamide was studied. It was demonstrated that regenerated dimethylacetamide was less stable to the action of these factors than a commercial sample. The influence of each factor on the concentration increase of monomethylacetamide was established. The monomethylacetamide concentration was shown to be correlated with the intensity and duration of the factors. © 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York. Source
