It has been shown that two types of nanofiller aggregation processes are realized during polymer/carbon nanotubes nanocomposites production: formation of nanotubes ropes and their bending. The first one from the indicated processes is realized at carbon nanotubes contents larger than the percolation threshold. The conditions of generation of twisted (ring-like) structures of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in the medium of polymer composite matrices are investigated. The methods for estimation of these structures are proposed within the framework of fractal analysis; their role in generation of mechanical properties of materials is analyzed. A sharp decrease of the level of interphase interactions with decrease in the radius of CNT ring-like structures is shown. The growth of this parameter leads to an increase of the elasticity modulus and to a decrease in the viscosity of the melt of CNT-filled polymer composites. © 2012 by Begell House, Inc.

The change in the melt viscosity of polypropylene-carbon nanotube nanocomposites upon variation in the nanofiller content has been studied. It has been shown that the continuous models developed to describe the polymer composites melt viscosity cannot describe this parameter in the case of nanocomposites. A correct description of the rheological properties of such composites can be made in terms of a fractal model of viscous flow. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The quantitative scaling model for nanocomposites polymer/carbon nanotubes reinforcement degree prediction has been offered. A radius of ring-like structures, formed by nanotubes in polymer matrix, usage for reduction factor determination is a specific feature of this model. At nanocomposites reinforcement degree calculation the offered model does not take into consideration a nanofiller elasticity modulus. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.
