Results of investigations of the stress-train state and strength of compensating sections (built with use of a low-modulus spacer) of steel/reinforced-concrete pressure conduits based on finite-element models are presented. Tensile hoop stresses requiring design (and not structural) reinforcement develop in the reinforced-concrete section of the conduits, which is separated from the inner steel lining by a low-modulus spacer. A procedure is proposed for calculation of the reinforcement, and diagrams are developed for reinforcement of the compensating sections of pressure conduits. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York. Basic operating principles of a pioneer fish-preserving complex is discussed as a component part of a tidal power plant. The complex contains fish-passing, fish-protection, and fish-habitation units that complement one another. A new concept is proposed for monitoring the life cycle of basic water-power equipment. The concept has a clearly staged structure, which will contribute to its accelerated practical implementation at establishments within the field. All basic stages of the concept have been tested by the JSC "RusHydro," including analytical strength substantiation, which is based on modern advancements in the field of mechanics, and drawing upon experience gained by foreign partners within the framework of the international activity of the SEAP Co. and allied branches of industry. Implementation of this concept at the analytical center of the JSC "RusHydro" will make it possible to obtain scientifically verified and valid computational estimates of the technical status and remaining service life of components of basic hydrotechnical equipment in all stages of their life cycle, and as a consequence, a significant reduction in the amount of human-induced emergencies and equipment failures at water-power entities. © 2014 Springer Science + Business Media New York.
