Experience with reinforcement of an anti-filtration curtain under complex geologic conditions, high heads, and heavy return flows of water is examined, and the history of the problem, difficulties with which were encountered during work production and scientific investigations, and means of their solution are presented. Results of complex instrument observations and video taping during large-scale blasts detonated for creation of the dam at the No. 2 Kambaratinskaya HPP on the Naryn River in the Kyrgyz Republic are analyzed. Tests of the energy effectiveness of the explosives are evaluated, characteristics of LSB manifestations in seismic and air waves are revealed, and the shaping and movement of the rock mass are examined. Designs and procedures are described for construction of an anti-filtration diaphragm in the body of the cofferdam for the pit of the first phase of construction of basic structures at the Lower Bureya HPP in the form of a diaphragm wall formed from cast-in-placed intersecting piles filled with a composition material. Procedures and results of development of a composite material-filler of the diaphragm walls are presented. Results of monitored performance are analyzed. Recommendations are given for practical use of the developments described. © 2015 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
